How I went on the cheapest cruise from Miami: what we were fed and entertained for $25 a day

Blogger Lucas Cruikshank booked a two-night tour on America's cheapest cruise ship, Margaritaville At Sea, from Miami to the Bahamas. He talks about his impressions of the trip Dailymail.

Lucas paid $200 for himself and his friend Jacob for the two-day trip. But, he said, once the additional fees are paid, the total comes out to $400, or $100 per person per night.

Lucas chose an ocean view room. This increased the cost of living. In addition, he purchased one unlimited package of soda.

First impression and food

From start to finish, Lucas documented his budget trip - his first cruise.

“Margaritaville at Sea Paradise has fairly low ratings, but we know that with one-star reviews people are being overly dramatic. It's like they're always in a bad mood. I need to see if this ship really deserves the low rating it received,” Lucas said before the trip.

According to him, reviews wrote that the ship “smells like poop.” However, when Lucas and Jacob boarded the ship, they were pleasantly surprised by what they saw.

“I was impressed with the ship we boarded,” Lucas said. “It’s over three decades old, but it’s been remodeled.” Maybe over time we will see some flaws, but basically I liked everything.”

After boarding the ship, the friends went to lunch. Although many online reviewers "despised" the food on board, Lucas said the food was good.

“The buffet was wonderful. Of course, it wasn’t Michelin-starred food, but there was no reason to complain, Lucas noted. “I’ve been to disgusting buffets, but this is completely different.” Everything looked like a normal buffet."

However, regarding drinks, Jacob noted that the water on the ship tasted of chlorine.

Paradise has six restaurants, three of which are free and three for an additional fee.

Lucas and Jacob went to the free ones. According to Lucas, the food was mostly "delicious."

My friends' only complaint was that the entrees were "delicious" but the portions were small. When they tried to order an additional portion, the waiter warned them that there would be an $8 charge for the next portion.

Cabin and entertainment

Upon entering the cabin, Lucas exclaimed, “Oh my god, it’s bigger than I expected.” He liked the cultured marble countertops and the “cozy” shower stall.

Although online reviewers warned that the rooms were outdated and in need of renovation and that the portholes leaked, Lucas and Jacob found little problem with their cabins. The only thing they noted was damaged furniture.

Another area that commentators complained about was public toilets. Lucas said people complained that the doors wouldn't lock and the restrooms were a "mess." Although Lucas had no complaints about the cruise's public restrooms, Jacob was stuck in a stall at one point but was eventually able to free himself.

Returning to the ship, Lucas also explored the casino, nightclub, bingo hall and hot tub.

After spending just over 48 hours on America's cheapest cruise ship, he said he enjoyed his time on the cruise.

“I think two days is ideal for a cruise like this,” he concluded.
