Millionaire who bought an island in Florida was caught stealing light bulbs from Kmart

59-year-old Andrew Francis Lippi from Key West (Florida), who owns a private island and two luxurious mansions, was caught in petty shop fraud.

Millionaire went to the Kmart store for several days in a row and purchased two coffee makers, eight light bulbs and a set of bed linen. Then he tried to return purchases to the store and get money back, writes Lenta.ru with reference to the Miami Herald.

But the store employees noticed that the man had replaced the goods and turned to the police. They found only a pillowcase in the laundry package, an old model was in a box from one of the coffee makers, and a basketball in the other. The returned light bulbs were not the brand.

Damage valued at 300 dollars and 59 cents. Lippi was arrested and charged with theft, but was released on bail the next day before the trial. The millionaire denies guilt and calls the incident a “commercial dispute.” According to him, the laundry was confused by the store employees themselves, and he found it already at home, so he decided to return the goods. However, recording from CCTV cameras proves the opposite.

A court hearing on his case is scheduled for April 18.

A week before the theft, Lippi paid eight million dollars for the estate of American philanthropist Edward B. Knight and the private island on which this building is located. Lippi also owns a mansion, where they filmed one of the seasons of the MTV reality show Real World. He now surrenders to AirBnB for 999 dollars per day.
