The largest US retailer announced a mega-recruitment of seasonal workers
This year, no retailer has announced a larger recruitment than Target.
Target plans to hire 120 000 seasonal workers this year. This is 20% more than they hired in 2017, and more than other competitors like FedEx, Macy's and Kohl's. This data was provided by Challenger, Gray and Christmas, who track seasonal hiring.
“The economy is doing very well and people will have extra money this holiday season. Retailers are expecting really strong sales numbers,” says Andrey Challenger, vice president of Challenger, Gray and Christmas.
“Each of our 1800 stores hires people for seasonal jobs,” said Target spokeswoman Angie Thompson. “We are expecting a very busy holiday season.”
The network is going to hire 120 000 seasonal employees in their stores, as well as in 7500 distribution centers.
The best way to check which jobs are open in your area is to go to the TargetSeasonalJobs.com website, Thompson says. On the site, candidates can search for open vacancies by location and keyword.
What is the salary in Target
Three years after Target announced its first increase in the minimum wage to $ 9 per hour, Target’s starting salary is now $ 12 per hour for any employee hired after 16 in September.
Compared to similar retail chains, this is a good indicator. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a retail salesperson is $10,30 per hour, according to salary tracking website Payscale. And while $12 is the minimum wage for Target's seasonal workers, an employee's actual salary could be higher depending on the position and the local market, Thompson says.
How to apply for a job in Target
The easiest way is to go to the website TargetSeasonalJobs.com. But if you already have a certain store in mind, you can always just go.
“They can walk into stores and apply at any time,” Thompson says. “They can talk to the general manager and learn about the opportunities available in the store.”
Despite the fact that it is easiest to apply online, personal contact with the manager is more effective, says Challenger.
