The Kremlin attributed a Russophobic statement to the US senator, and then put him on the wanted list for it
US Senator Lindsey Graham met with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky on May 26. After this meeting, Russian politicians twisted his words, took what he said out of context and attributed Russophobic statements to him. Even the senator’s explanation did not help - in Russia he was still put on the wanted list for what he allegedly said, reports Reuters.
What Graham said
Graham visited Ukraine on the 457th day of the war and said that Ukrainians resisting the invasion reminded him of "the best days of American history."
“There was a time in America when we were like that—we fought to the last, we were going to be free or die,” Graham said.
“Now you are free,” Zelensky answered him. - And we will".
Graham replied: "And the Russians are dying."
Zelensky then added: “Yes, but they came to our territory. We are not fighting on their territory."

Some time later during the conversation, Zelensky thanked the senator for US financial assistance to Ukraine, and Graham called American assistance “the best money we have ever spent.”
The phrases about the death of the Russians and about “the best money the United States has ever spent” were said in different parts of the conversation and had no relation to each other. Although in slicing frames from the meeting made by the Office of the President of Ukraine, they appeared side by side.
Russian propaganda decided not to understand and raised a scandal.
What did the Russians hear?
For some reason, the Russians combined two completely separate remarks from Graham together and were outraged by what happened. They decided that he said: “And the Russians are dying. The best money the US has ever spent."
Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev called Graham an “old fool.”
“Old fool Senator Lindsey Graham said that the United States has never spent money better than on killing Russians. He shouldn’t have done this,” Medvedev was indignant, adding to this the story of all the American politicians who were killed.

Lindsey Graham put on the wanted list in Russia
Russia has put US Senator Lindsey Graham on the wanted list for his “Russophobic statement.” The wanted card was published in the database of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. The charges have not yet been decided; the card states that the senator is “wanted under an article of the Criminal Code (Criminal Code).”
What does Graham think about this?
“As usual, the Russian propaganda machine is hard at work,” Graham said, commenting on Medvedev's statements.
Graham stressed that he told Zelensky "that Ukraine has adopted the American mantra: 'Live free or die,' and that the US has made a good investment in helping free Ukraine from Russian war criminals."

He added: “Mr. Medvedev, if you want Russians to stop dying in Ukraine, withdraw your troops. Stop the invasion. Stop war crimes. But the truth is that Russian soldiers are indifferent to both you and Putin.”
