'Coronavirus is just the tip of the iceberg': Wuhan virologist warns of future pandemics
A virologist from Wuhan, who was nicknamed “the bat woman” for her work with these representatives of wildlife, called the coronavirus “just the tip of the iceberg,” referring to the dangers we may face in the future, writes New York Post.
Wuhan researcher Shi Zhengli warns that the emergence of the deadly coronavirus is “just the tip of the iceberg” in terms of what people may soon face if the world does not take global efforts to prevent such infectious outbreaks.
“If we want to prevent human suffering from the next infectious disease outbreak, we must learn in advance about these unknown viruses carried by wild animals in nature and prevent them in advance,” said Shi Zhengli, who specializes in the transmission of viruses from bats to humans.
“If we don’t study [viruses], there may be another outbreak,” the “Bat Woman” warned.
Since the emergence of coronavirus in Wuhan, China, at the end of 2019, COVID-19 has killed over 345 people worldwide.

A laboratory in Wuhan, where Shi Zhengli is deputy director, is suspected of accidentally spreading the virus to people. China is also accused of not realizing the danger quickly enough and hiding the fact that its citizens are affected by the virus.
Shea denies that her laboratory was related to origin, claiming that she used various strains of viruses in her work.
