Constantinople declared that in Ukraine there is no more Moscow Patriarchate

The representative of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, Archbishop Job of Telmis, stated that since October 11, 2018, the hierarchs of all Ukrainian churches in the eyes of the Phanar have the same status - clergy of the Ecumenical Throne.

According to Job, one of the points of the historical decision of the Ecumenical Throne on October 11 was the abolition of the synodal act on the transfer of the Kyiv Metropolis - that is, in fact, the territory of Ukraine - to the administration of the Russian Church, writes “New time".

“By the repeal of the act of 1686, the administration of the Moscow Church of the Kyiv Metropolis and all dioceses in Ukraine was abolished... From a canonical point of view, this means that today in Ukraine the UOC MP no longer exists. All bishops now in Ukraine de facto, according to this decision of the synod, are bishops of the Ecumenical Throne, and they must now wait for the directive of the Ecumenical Patriarchate regarding their further functioning and existence in the future of granting autocephaly to the Orthodox Church in Ukraine,” Archbishop Job explained.

At the same time, he emphasized that by resolving the Ukrainian issue, the Ecumenical Patriarchate “gains nothing.”

“If the Ecumenical Patriarchate wanted to get something, it could simply revive its metropolis, which existed in Kyiv until the end of the 17th century. But Constantinople does not want this. Constantinople wants to give Ukraine autocephaly so that Ukraine can have its own church,” he said.

Recall, October 11 Synod of Constantinople Patriarchate made a historic decision to repeal the act of the temporary transfer of the Moscow Patriarchate of the Kiev Metropoliscreating in Kiev straropigia and recognition of the canonical primates of the UOC-KP and the UAOC, which is an important milestone in the provision of autocephaly to the Ukrainian Church.

15 October Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church decided to give up eucharistic communion with Constantinople because of the preparation of autocephaly by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by Fanar. Now, for praying in the “forbidden” churches of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, clergy of the Russian Orthodox Church will face punishment, and believers will be required to repent of this sin in confession.
