Congressmen urge Biden to change the date of Zelensky's visit to the White House

The day before, the White House announced that they were expecting the Ukrainian president in Washington on August 30. But at this time, the US Congress will be on vacation, which will last from August 7 to September 20, making it difficult to plan meetings with congressmen and senators.

“I don’t like this time,” Marcy Kaptur said. “We sent letters to President Biden asking him to change the date of the meeting so that members of Congress would be here in Washington at the same time.” I hope the President will consider this. I know that he is very busy - this is the first year of his administration. But changing the date is not so difficult, which will allow us to have a proper dialogue with the Ukrainian president.”

On the eve of the selected date of Zelensky's visit, Senator Ted Cruz also criticized.

“President Zelensky will not be able to talk to members of Congress who bipartisanly oppose Biden’s capitulation to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Nord Stream 2. This is probably just a coincidence,” the senator wrote on Twitter.

In turn, Volodymyr Zelenskyy expects that the meeting will be "meaningful and fruitful."

The Office of the President of Ukraine added that soon the head of this department Andriy Yermak and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba will visit Washington to discuss the content of Zelensky's visit to the United States.
