US Congress adopts resolution against Russia's return to G7

The US House of Representatives adopted a resolution calling for Russia not to be returned to the G7, in particular because of the occupation of Crimea and the war in Donbass.

339 congressmen spoke in support of the document, and 71 were against it. In the resolution, parliamentarians confirmed their support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. They also condemned Russia’s aggressive actions, including the illegal occupation of Crimea and destabilization in eastern Ukraine, writes “Ukrainian Truth«.

In addition, congressmen called on the G7 leaders to oppose Russia's possible return to the GXNUMX until it ends its occupation of the territory of Ukraine along with Crimea and stops attacks on democracy around the world.

The decision was preceded by the fact that at the end of October the House Foreign Affairs Committee adopted a resolution against Russia's participation in the G7 summit.

Recall that G7 includes seven countries: USA, Canada, Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Japan.

In turn, Germany and Great Britain rejected Trump's proposal for the return of Russia.

On August 22, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that Russia’s return to the GXNUMX is possible only if occupied Crimea is returned to Ukraine, hostilities in Donbass cease and Ukrainian political prisoners and sailors are released.

Zelensky also called President of the European Council Donald Tusk and called on the EU to “take a decisive position on the impossibility of returning the Russian Federation to the G7 without eliminating the reasons why Russia was once excluded from it.”

In turn, Tusk came out categorically against the return of the Russian Federation to the G7 and said that he considered it more correct to “invite Ukraine as a guest to the next GXNUMX meeting.”

On August 25, US President Donald Trump said that he would invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to the next GXNUMX summit, which will be held in the United States, “certainly possible«.
