The Health Authority has issued a recall order for Bistak products, primarily targeting Canadian customers. Bistak companies distributed their rat-infested products in southern Canadian states, including Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, reports BGR.

Salmonella infections can be dangerous to people. This is why we regularly encounter product recalls when products test positive for a pathogen.

There is even a warning from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) about a salmonella outbreak, although it is not related to contaminated food. The CDC warning applies to pets because pets can carry salmonella and transmit it to humans.

That is why Bistak Enterprises Inc. and Bistak Groceries Inc. announced a massive food recall. Companies have recalled all food products they produce due to potential salmonella contamination caused by rodent infestation.

Bistak food review

Both companies have recalled all food products they sold before December 29th. The list may include "dry foods such as cereals, beans, flour, canned food, fats and oils, beverages, meat products, fish products, baked goods, spices, and milk powder."

The Saskatchewan Health Authority has issued a recall order for Bistak products, primarily targeting Canadian customers. The Bistak companies distributed their products in the southern states of Canada, including Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

There were no cases of Salmonella contamination associated with food consumption during this mass recall. But both companies are advising people to avoid any of the products mentioned in the recall.

Symptoms of Salmonella Infection

Food with salmonella won't have a different smell or taste, so you won't be able to tell if recalled foods are safe.

If you consume foods containing salmonella, you are at risk of developing an infection within 12 to 72 hours of ingesting the bacteria. The illness resolves in a few days without treatment for most people. But certain categories of patients, including children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems, may develop more severe cases that require medical attention.

Symptoms may include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Some of these symptoms are characteristic of other diseases, so you may not immediately associate them with the use of products from the Bistak recall.

Proper diagnosis will require testing for salmonella.

What do we have to do

If you still have Bistak recalled products in your refrigerator or freezer, you should stop using them. You must not sell or distribute any recalled food, even if it still looks good. We remind you that Salmonella contamination does not affect the appearance, taste or smell of food.

Customers must discard recalled products or return various products to the location where they were purchased.

If you live in Canada or have recently traveled north and shopped at Bistak stores, you should be aware of the food recall. You should check to see if you have any Bistak food sold before December 29th at home.

People who develop symptoms similar to a salmonella infection should contact their doctor. This is something you should be doing whether you have recently consumed Bistak food products or not.
