Senate Intelligence Committee: There is no evidence of Trump’s conspiracy with Russia

Republican Richard Burr, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said that the investigation into Russia's interference in US elections in 2016 did not find evidence that would indicate collusion between the headquarters of presidential candidate Donald Trump and the Russian government.

Earlier, US intelligence came to the conclusion that Russia interfered in the presidential election of 2016 year to contribute to the victory of Donald Trump, recalls Voice of America. The investigation by US special counsel Robert Mueller is now looking into, among other things, whether Russian interference in the US elections was coordinated with the Trump campaign. The investigation has already resulted in a number of formal charges and convictions of people close to Trump, but - as critics note - most of these cases do not concern the actual issue of conspiracy with Russia, but relate to seemingly unrelated crimes.

The intelligence committee, chaired by Burr, also conducts its own investigation into Russian intervention. In an interview with the American CBS channel, Burr said that the committee interviewed more than 200 witnesses from different countries and analyzed more than 300 000 document pages.

According to Burr, “based on the evidence available today,” his committee cannot definitively declare collusion between Trump and the Russian government.

“If we write the investigative report based on the facts that we have, we have nothing that would indicate collusion between Trump and Russia,” Burr told CBS.

The legislator added that the investigation is ongoing.

US President Donald Trump, who calls the charges of conspiring with Russia politically motivated, welcomed Burra’s statement.

But some Democrats resolutely rejected the words of the head of the committee.

“Senator Burr helped the Trump team take power after the election, so his words that there was no conspiracy should alert everyone,” said the Democratic Coalition, a political organization that was created in 2016 to counter Donald Trump.

Recently, the House of Representatives Committee on Intelligence, which was headed by Democrats after the elections, announced the resumption of an investigation into Russian intervention. President Trump strongly condemned this decision. The President also drew attention to the fact that the leader of the House Committee of Representatives, the Democrat Schiff, met with representatives of a company that was collecting dirt on Trump in the interests of the Democratic Party on the eve of the 2016 election of the year.

Trump's supporters believe that the unconfirmed compromise collected by this company (which worked in the interests of Trump's political opponents) was used to spy on Trump's headquarters, and later formed the basis for the investigation of Special Prosecutor Muller.

“...This is all a huge and illegal fake, created before the election, but ultimately used by the US Democratic Party to explain why the lying Hillary Clinton lost the election! Someday the lying media will be honest and say that Donald Trump was a great candidate,” the US President said on Twitter on Friday.

Democrat Adam Schiff, who chairs the House Intelligence Committee, said the investigation would not consider "threats."

“I can understand why the idea of ​​real oversight terrifies the president. Several of his close associates have already been sentenced to prison, the rest are awaiting trial, and criminal investigations are ongoing. We will do our job and will not be heeded or intimidated by threats and attacks,” Schiff said.
