Trump asked the head of the FBI to stop the investigation of relations with Russia

President Trump insisted that James Komi stop the FBI investigation regarding former National Security Advisor Michael Flin’s ties with Russia.

After the February national security briefing, which included Vice President Pence and Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Trump asked to meet face to face with Komi, says a man who does not have the right to publicly comment on the situation.

“I hope you can leave this case alone,” Trump said, referring to the Flynn investigation.

This incident was first reported on Tuesday edition The New York Times.

Recall that last week Trump suddenly fired Komi that Democratic lawmakers condemned as an attempt to influence the investigation regarding Trump's ties with Russia.

According to a source, Komi led his own journal of all his discussions with Trump, as he was suspicious of the president’s motives. These documents are evidence of, allegedly, “undue” pressure that Trump put on the FBI investigation in Russia.

Flynn’s resignation followed shortly after the publication of articles that the Justice Department had warned the White House a few weeks before that Flynn could be blackmailed by Russia because of his contacts with Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak before Trump's inauguration of January 20.

The FBI analyzed Flynn’s contacts with Kislyak before Trump’s inauguration, which discussed the sanctions imposed by the Obama administration against Russia. These conversations were secretly recorded by the federal authorities, as were most of the messages with the participation of foreign diplomats. At first, Flynn denied the possibility of discussing sanctions, but later saidthat this question may float.

Lawmakers responded without delay to the appearance of messages in the media.

Rep. Jason Schaffett, who heads the Committee on Government Supervision and Government Reform, sent a letter to the FBI Acting Director Andrew McCabe, requesting all notes, a summary or a message with Trump and Komi, before 24 in May.

Adam Schiff, the top House Democrat leading the congressional investigation into Russia's influence on the election, demanded that Comey testify to Congress about his conversations with Trump. “Enough is enough,” Schiff said. “Congress really needs to look into this.”

Comey “should appear before Congress,” Schiff said, “and share with the public his conversations with the president, including whether Trump in any way tried to obstruct the investigation.”

Republican Senator Lindsay Graham stated that he invited Komi to testify to the Senate Judicial Committee to tell "his part of the story."

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi called it a "brazen attempt" to shut down the FBI investigation. “If these reports are true... this is an attack on the rule of law, which is fundamental to our democracy. At best, President Trump has committed a grave abuse of executive power, and at worst, he has obstructed justice,” she said.

The Senate Intelligence Committee, which, together with the House Intelligence Committee of the House of Representatives, is investigating Russia's interference in the 2016 election of the year, recently asked Flynn and Trump's other former advisers to provide information about their activities.

Flynn also is under investigation by the Pentagon’s General Inspector for failing to inform Defense Ministry officials that they want to receive payments from foreign governments.
