Death toll from COVID-19 in the United States exceeds the country's losses in World War II

A total of 12 Americans died from December 3 to December 9, according to data compiled by the COVID Tracking Project, which has published weekly analysis over a seven-day period since March 15.
On Wednesday, December 9, the United States recorded its highest number of deaths in one day - 3088 people.
For the first time, the number of deaths per day exceeded 3000 people. The previous one-day record was set on May 7 with 2769 deaths.
The US also broke the weekly record for new cases, registering a total of 1,4 million new infections in the seven-day period from December 3-9, up 27 percent from the previous week.
According to the data, more than 106 people have been hospitalized to date across the country.

As of Friday, December 11, the United States has the 11th highest number of COVID-19 deaths per capita, with approximately 886 deaths per 1 million people.
The United States is ahead of Belgium, Peru and Italy, which round out the top three countries with the most deaths per million population.
For example, the UK is also ahead of the US in the number of deaths per capita - about 942 cases per 1 million people.
