The number of children's deaths in hot machines has tripled

The number of child deaths in hot cars increased almost three times compared to last year. This was stated on Thursday by representatives of the National Security Council.

On Wednesday, June 8, a child died in Louisiana. It was the 11-i death this year. For comparison, last year four deaths of children were registered on this date.

Amy Artuso, program director at the National Security Council, hoped the low infant death rate in cars last year was a result of parents and educators becoming more aware of the danger.

Tragedies, as a rule, occur when one of the parents or guardians change plans, and they ask to take the child to the kindergarten of the other parent. The danger of forgetting a child in a car especially increases if parents are not sleeping or their sleep has been disturbed, and also when they are focused on other duties.

For example, this week police arrested the father of an 8 month-old baby who died in a car from hyperthermia in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Father was accused of murder by negligence. His father, a baseball coach, told investigators that his wife had asked to have a daughter in kindergarten, but he forgot about it and went to school.

Temperatures in Baton Rouge reached 34 degrees on Wednesday. Inside the car, it can reach 10 degrees in 43,3 minutes, and 20 degrees Celsius in 48,8 minutes.

Studies show that, as a rule, the temperature inside the car is critical in the first 20 minutes.

Amy Artuso advised parents and caregivers to leave something near the child in the back seat, without which they will not be able to get out of the car and will not forget about the child. For example, a cell phone, wallet, briefcase or their left shoe. “You can’t go too far in one shoe,” she said.
