Cocaine, a witch and William's assault: what Prince Harry wrote about in his memoirs

Although Prince Harry's memoir has not yet been released, it has already become the subject of discussion on the Internet. Especially after The Guardian got a copy of Spare. What did Prince Harry say, the publication found out with the BBC.

As the Guardian notes, the Prince's autobiography, compiled by professional memoirist J.R. Mehringer, is written in a very personal way and affects all of Harry's immediate family, that is, all members of the royal family.

It is not yet clear if there are any sensational revelations about the late Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Philip the Duke of Edinburgh. In those fragments of the book that the publication retells, the prince does not mention his grandparents.

The memoir will be released on January 10 in English. The Spanish-language version of "Spare" has already been published, and some media have managed to partially familiarize themselves with it.

Harry and William asked their father not to marry Camilla

In his book, Harry writes that he and his brother begged his father not to marry Camille (at that time Parker-Bowles) and met with her separately for a conversation before the wedding took place.

According to Harry, he was afraid that Camille would become an evil stepmother for them and her brother, but deep down, she and William were ready to forgive her everything if her father was happy with her.

When exactly Harry's conversation with Camilla, who had not yet married his father, took place is unclear from the published passages, so it is not known how old the prince was at that time. The very marriage of Prince Charles, and now King Charles III, took place in 2005, when Harry was 20 years old.

The sorceress gave a "message from Diana"

Prince Harry also describes how he grieved for his dead mother, Princess Diana, so he decided to turn to a woman who claimed she could communicate with the dead.

“Your mother says that you live a life that she herself could not live. You are living the life she wanted for you,” the witch told him.

Princess Diana died in Paris in 1997 when Harry was 12 years old.

In the book, the author only briefly talks about a conversation with his late mother. When and where his meeting with the witch took place is also unclear.

Charles didn't hug Harry after Diana's death

In his memoir, Harry recalls how his father approached him to break the tragic news of Diana's death in a car accident, and did not hug him at that moment.

However, the prince writes, even under normal circumstances, his father "never knew how to show his feelings."

William pounced on Harry, knocking him down.

In his book, Prince Harry told how during one of the quarrels with his brother about his wife Megan, he grabbed him by the collar, breaking the cord hanging around his neck, and threw him to the floor. It happened in Harry's London residence, that is, William was visiting him, therefore, rising to his feet, Harry refused to give back to his brother (which he actively provoked) and ordered him to get out.

According to Harry, the conflict began because of the epithets that William allowed himself to use about his wife Meghan Markle. In particular, he allegedly called it difficult (“difficult”, “inconvenient”), rude (“rude”, “disrespectful”, “impolite”) and abrasive (“unpleasant”, “irritating”).

The conflict escalated, writes Harry, as William increasingly "mindlessly repeated press tales." And then it allegedly came to assault.

This is how Harry describes the events: “He put down a glass of water, called me names again, and then attacked. Everything happened so fast. Very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, tore the string hanging around my neck, and threw me to the floor. I fell on my back on a dog bowl, which as a result cracked, piercing me with its fragments. I lay there for a while, completely dumbfounded by what had happened, after which I got to my feet and told him to get out.”

William and Kate laughed at Harry's Nazi costume for the party

The memoir claims that Prince William and Princess Catherine laughed when Harry showed up to the masquerade in 2005 in a uniform with symbols of Nazi Germany.

According to Harry, on the eve of the possible options for a costume for a party, he discussed with his brother and daughter-in-law, because their opinion was important to him.

He details how he asked them to help him decide between being a pilot and being a Nazi.

“I called Will and Kate and asked what they thought. They said it was a Nazi uniform. I rented this costume, along with a funny mustache, and returned home. William and Kate laughed. It was even worse than Will’s leopard print leotard, much more ridiculous,” Harry writes.

He was 20 when the Sun tabloid ran a front-page photo of him wearing a Nazi uniform at an Indigenous and Colonial themed party.

How Harry lost his virginity

Harry also told about his first sexual experience, which happened to him at the age of 17.

It happened in a field behind a pub with a woman who was older than him.

His partner treated him "like a young stallion," writes Harry, and his first sexual experience was extremely humiliating for him.

Cocaine at 17 and marijuana at Eton

Harry says that he was offered to sniff cocaine when, at the age of 17, he was visiting friends. The prince admits that he used the drug several times, although, according to him, it did not give him pleasure.

“It wasn't very fun and didn't make me feel as happy as it did for others. But I felt like a different person, and this was my main goal. I was a 17-year-old boy, ready to try anything that would change the pre-established order,” the prince reveals.

He also said that when he was at Eton, he smoked marijuana on campus while his police bodyguards guarded the building outside.

William was unhappy with Harry's presence at Eton

“You don’t know me, Harold, and I don’t know you,” Prince William allegedly told his brother when he arrived to study at Britain’s most prestigious college.

By that time, William had been studying at Eton for two years and, as he himself admitted to Harry, this place became for him a refuge from his family.

“He didn’t have the burden of a younger brother asking him questions or poking his nose into his social circle,” Harry explains William’s position.

Harry told his brother not to worry about him and promised to completely forget that they knew each other.

Harry writes that while serving as a helicopter pilot in Afghanistan in 2012-2013, he personally took part in six sorties, each of which hit live targets, but the prince considered these killings justified.

In total, 25 Taliban fighters were killed with his direct participation.

“I’m not at all proud of this statistic, but I don’t feel any shame about it either,” the prince explains. “In the heat and confusion of the battle, I did not perceive these 25 people as people. These were pawns removed from the board. Bad guys who got rid of before they started killing good people."

Charles begged William and Harry not to fight

Harry recalls how in 2021, after the funeral of his grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, he and William almost came to blows.

Prince Charles literally stood between his sons and said: "Please, boys, do not poison my last years of life."

Harry didn't learn about his grandmother's death from his family, but from the news.

“When the plane was landing, my mobile screen lit up. A message came from Megan: “Call me as soon as you get this.” I opened the site. My grandmother died. My father became king,” Prince Harry recalls.

William is the heir, Harry is the spare

The title of the book "Spare", says Prince Harry, was not chosen by chance and has a deep meaning. This word was supposedly spoken by his father as soon as he was born.

The rhyming expression an heir and a spare ("one heir and one spare") in British English is stable. In noble families, it is customary to call two children half-jokingly. The eldest child must inherit the parental title and fortune, and the youngest serves as a guarantee that the lineage will not be interrupted even if something happens to the eldest.

"Wonderful. You gave me one heir and one spare. Your mission is accomplished,” Prince Charles allegedly told Princess Diana at the time, Harry claims.

He clarifies that he himself was told about this when he was already 20, but the author of the memoirs does not name his source.

The price of Prince Harry's revelations

The public is very interested in the question of how much Prince Harry earned from his revelations.

The size of his fee is not officially called, but, according to some information, the publishing company Penguin Random House paid the author an advance of $ 20 million.

When the book hits the UK market, it will cost £28 ($34) for the hardcover and £20 ($24) for the audio version. The size of the circulation is still unknown.

Penguin Random House said in a statement that not all profits from the sale of the book will go to Prince Harry, some will go to charity.

In particular, it is known that one and a half million dollars are planned to be transferred to the organization Sentebale, which supports children and young people infected with HIV in Lesotho and Botswana.
