When can you see the fire falls in Yosemite: a calendar of the best days to visit the famous park

Yosemite National Park offers visitors something special every time of year, reports Lonely Planet. But it is in February that you can see a truly amazing phenomenon there - a fiery waterfall.

To see Yosemite's Fire Falls in 2024, you'll need to visit the park between February 13 and February 27.

Firefall is Horsetail Falls at sunset. During the magical pre-sunset hour, the waterfall appears as flowing lava flows, glowing yellow, orange and even red.

May to September is the busiest time in Yosemite

Yosemite National Park attracts about 75% of visitors per year during this period. These months correspond to the best weather and also when all roads, trails, lodging, shuttles and attractions in the park are open. This includes its most famous road, Tioga Rd, a 102 km scenic road that closes when snow starts to fall.

On the other hand, you will see the most people during the summer months, especially in July and August. However, if you've never been to Yosemite, it's best to go there in late spring, summer, or early fall, as you'll see blue skies, spectacular waterfalls, and the largest selection of lodging.

May and June are also great months to rent. In addition to campsites, Yosemite has half a dozen park accommodation options, from full-service hotels to traditional cabins and tarpaulin tents. Lodging in the park is usually fully booked at least a year in advance. However, May is the month when you are most likely to find a free room.

May, June and September are perfect for sunny days with blue skies, ideal temperatures and camping

For the most comfortable temperatures and the best chance of cloudless skies, visit in June or September.

Yosemite receives 95% of its rainfall between October and May, making June and September its two driest months. May is also relatively safe, as most of the spring storms have passed by now. As such, you can expect sunny blue days that are perfect for photographing top sights such as El Capitan and ancient redwoods in excellent light.

These months are also ideal for camping, as it is warm enough to feel comfortable in a tent at night, but not too hot. It's easier to book campsites from May to mid-June and September, before the crowds show up.

Avoid Yosemite in July and August if the crowds and heat are not for you

Yosemite National Park sees an absolute peak in crowding in July and August. You will need to pre-book accommodation, including campsites, as well as any guides, activities or tours.

These are also the hottest months to visit the park. Come between November and April for some winter fun
During this period, the park has fewer people and better accommodation offers.

Yosemite is least crowded from November to April

If you want the sights to be more for you, visit the park during this time. Just be aware that in addition to housing closures, roads also close seasonally due to the weather and fewer excursion options.

However, Yosemite is covered in snow during the winter, so it's a very calm time of year to visit, especially if you enjoy activities in cold weather.

Only two hotels in the park are open year-round. Ahwahnee is the only luxury hotel in Yosemite. Built in the grandiose "Parkitecture" style, it is located in the central Yosemite Valley, and in winter its prices are 25% lower. Reserving seats in this case is much easier - tickets for the summer months are often sold out more than a year in advance. Please note that it is closed for renovations until March 2, 2023.

Yosemite Valley Lodge is another year-round option: a traditional lodge at the foot of Yosemite Falls with magnificent glass and wood architecture. The house lets in a lot of light in winter.

There is also one accommodation option, a ski hut Glacier pointwhich is only open in winter. It can be reached via a 16 km cross-country ski run. It offers stunning views of Half Dome and Yosemite Valley.
