Keith nearly ate kayakers on a California beach
What began as a peaceful morning of kayaking and whale watching has turned into a challenge for Julie McSorley and her friend Liz Cottriel from San Luis Obispo, California. Details of the unusual incident told the publication KMPH.

“My adrenaline is still pumping,” McSorley said.
The friends went kayaking off the coast of Avila Beach and watched whales about 30 feet (9 m) away. Other rowers also enjoyed the spectacle.
“I saw a big fish emerging from the water. It turned out it was a whale rising,” McSorley recalls. - I thought: oh no! He's too close."
“The whale was literally right in my face,” Cottriel added.
“All of a sudden I was in the water,” continued McSorley, who was recording the incident on her cell phone.
What started as a peaceful morning of kayaking turned into a close call for two friends at Avila Beach.

“I thought I should push the whale aside. It was the strangest thought. It seemed that I would die because he would fall on me,” Cottriel recalls the experience. “I also remember how I ended up under water.”
When McSorley emerged from the water, she waited for Cottriel to emerge.
Moments later, other rowers and kayakers came to their aid. They made sure their friends weren't hurt.
“When we got back to the car, fish fell out of my shirt,” Cottriel said.
As a result of the incident, McSorley lost her car keys.
But the friends had an incredible moment.
“I love these creatures dearly,” admits Cottriel. “But I never even thought that one of them would be right here in front of my face.”
