Every 20 death in the world is due to alcohol: where in the US people drink the most

According to a new report by the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 3 million people died from alcohol consumption in the 2016 year, 1 out of every 20 deaths worldwide, writes CNN.

More than 75% of these deaths occurred in men.

Thus, of all the alcohol-related deaths, 28% was caused by injuries due to traffic accidents, physical abuse and carelessness or deliberate self-harm, 21% - digestive disorders, 19% - diseases of the cardiovascular system. The remaining 32% include infectious diseases, cancer, mental disorders.

It was also found that alcohol is responsible for the development of more than 200 various diseases and disorders. In addition, people who abuse alcohol are at risk for infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, HIV and pneumonia.

According to experts, 237 of millions of men and 46 of millions of women drink alcohol in quantities exceeding the daily rate. Alcoholism is a problem of countries with high incomes: most of all drinkers live in Europe and in America. On average, these people drink about 33 grams of pure alcohol per day. This is about two glasses of wine on 150 milliliters or a bottle of beer.

According to the WHO, about 2,3 billion people consume alcohol, and school surveys indicate that most children begin to drink alcohol before 15. Worldwide, 45% alcohol is consumed in the form of alcohol, followed by beer (34%) and wine (12%).

Despite the reduction in world alcohol consumption by 10% from 2010, experts predict that in the coming 10 years there will be more drinking people. Especially in Southeast Asia, North and South America and the Western Pacific.
