Canada tightened sanctions against Russia

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the introduction of economic and visa sanctions against 37 citizens of Russia and Ukraine, as well as 17 of Russian and Ukrainian organizations.

Harper’s statement, in particular, states: “Canada’s position remains clear - we recognize the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and never recognize the illegal Russian occupation of any part of the country.”

As noted in the statement, new sanctions were adopted in response to a series of acts of aggression undertaken by Russian-backed separatists.

According to information posted on the official website of the Prime Minister of Canada, the sanctions included, in particular, Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia Anatoly Antonov, Head of the Main Operations Directorate - Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Andrei Kartapolov, General Director of the Rostec Corporation Sergei Chemezov, General Director of the Russian international news agency "Russia Today" Dmitry Kiselev, State Duma deputy Joseph Kobzon, leader of the Night Wolves club Alexander Zaldostanov, State Duma deputy Valery Rashkin and others.

In addition, members of the “governments” of the unrecognized DNR and LNR and the heads of their illegal armed groups were sanctioned.

The sanctions are also extended to the Russian company Rosneft and the movement Novorossia, as well as a number of structures of the DPR-LPR, in particular, the battalions Sparta, Death, Zarya, Somalia, Kalmius, the Ghost Brigade " and etc.
