California banned tourists from approaching the tallest tree in the world: the most curious face a $ 5000 fine and a prison term

California's Redwood National Park has issued a warning that any visitor caught near the Hyperion tree could face a $5000 fine and up to six months in jail. USAToday.

Listed in the Guinness World Records as the world's tallest living tree, Hyperion is now officially closed to the public and the national park is making a determined effort to enforce this rule.

The coastal redwood, known as the ancient evergreen tree of the "sequoia evergreen" type, has faced severe environmental degradation due to tourists and travelers who have been visiting since 2006. The 115 m high tree is named after a character from Greek mythology; Hyperion was one of the Titans and the father of the sun god Helios and the moon goddess Selene.

Hyperion is located off the trail in dense vegetation and requires walking through brush to reach the tree, Redwood National Park said in a statement. Humans strayed from the path led to the devastation of the habitat around Hyperion.

“As a visitor, you must decide whether you will participate in preserving this unique landscape or in its destruction?” the statement said.

Forest fires also disturb ancient trees. General Sherman, the world's largest tree by density, not height, was wrapped in an aluminum-based fire retardant last year to avoid devastating fires.
