California homeless man who attacked a Russian tourist was sentenced to 9 years in prison

57, a summer homeless man who stabbed a Russian tourist and attacked his family in Hollywood (California), was sentenced on February to nine years in prison to 14.

According to the investigation, the attack was unprovoked and happened in a shopping mall, writes KTLA.

Donald Offermann pleaded not guilty to the charges of attempted murder and assault with a weapon, but announced his unwillingness to dispute them (plea of ​​no contest).

The attack occurred on November 18 of 2015, when the victim and his family, visiting Hollywood as tourists, climbed the stairs to the Highland Center.

“Offerman approached the group from behind and stabbed the victim,” the investigation says. The attacker also swung an 8-inch (20 cm) kitchen knife at the victim's wife and their two children.

“A struggle ensued between Offerman and the victim, causing the victim to be stabbed further while the man’s family fled,” prosecutors said in a statement. The victim suffered several injuries, including a puncture wound to his neck.

Two policemen on duty in the center detained Offerman and held him until the arrival of the Los Angeles police.

A month after the start of the investigation, Offman was declared irresponsible, but in April 2018, the decision was changed, and the trial began again.
