Which states will raise the minimum wage in 2024?

While inflation appears to be easing in some categories, the cost of almost everything remains high. A recent analysis found that most American families would have to spend another $10 or more to afford the same goods and quality of life they had at the start of 000. Fortunately, more than half the country will raise the minimum wage in 2021. But not everywhere. Which states will still raise the minimum wage, the publication said The Hill.

The federal minimum wage will remain at $7,25 an hour next year, the same level it has been since 2009. Twenty states will remain at that level, while another 25 and the District of Columbia will increase wages.

In most cases, the increases will take effect on January 1, 2024. For example, the District of Columbia currently has a minimum wage of $17, which is higher than any other state. It is expected to increase on July 1 based on the region's consumer price index.

In July, Nevada's minimum wage will rise to $11 for employers who provide qualifying health benefits and to $12 for those who do not. Oregon will also raise its minimum wage, from $13,20 to $15,45, depending on where you live.

Florida's minimum wage will rise from $12 to $13 an hour in September as part of a gradual increase to $15 by 2026.

Besides the District of Columbia, seven states (and potentially eight if Oregon's standard minimum wage rises 80 cents from $14,20) will have a minimum wage of $15 or higher.

States that will reach $15 minimum wage include Delaware, Illinois and Rhode Island, which will have a $2025 minimum wage through XNUMX.

Most notable among them all is California, where the minimum wage for fast food workers will be $20 an hour next year. The state sets the minimum wage for health care workers at $25 an hour.

Hawaii will see its biggest overall increase when the minimum wage rises from $1 to $12 on Jan. 14. The state is currently phasing out increases to bring the minimum wage to $2028 an hour in 18. In addition to Hawaii, the following states will increase their minimum wage by at least $1 in 2024:

• Maryland: $13,25 to $15
• Delaware: $11,75 to $13,25
• Nebraska: $10,50 to $12
• Florida: $12 to $13
• Illinois: $13 to $14
• New Jersey: $14,13 to $15,13
• Rhode Island: $14,13 to $15,13

Overall, Washington will have the highest minimum wage of any state in 2024, at $16,28 an hour. It is followed by California, where the minimum wage will rise to $16, and Connecticut, where it will be $15,69 next year.
