What products are definitely worth trying in the US
There is a widespread opinion among our compatriots that Americans are not very picky about food, and when you come to the USA, you should not expect to try any culinary delights. I will tell you that this opinion is clearly not without reason. The USA is not Italy, for sure, although it is the main popularizer of pizza. However, some products sold in the most ordinary supermarkets in the USA are very tasty, and here you can hardly find such products. So, what is definitely worth trying in the USA?
Marble beef
My husband is a big meat lover, but I have an even attitude towards him. When my husband was unhappy with the quality of the steak at yet another advertised steak house back home, I could only smirk in response: well, it's just meat, what do you expect from it? The only meat I liked was shashlik made by my husband from fresh, young, fatty pork, when the meat is very tender and juicy inside. I didn't even look at the beef.

But when I came to the US, I noticed marbled steaks at Costco for $40 a kilo. “Who in their right mind would pay that much for beef?” I wondered, but my husband decided to try it, and we were both simply stunned! I had never eaten such juiciness and tenderness of grilled meat in my life, and the fact that it was beef was even more surprising. I don’t know how things are now in my homeland, but for me, marbled beef here is simply unique meat. Be sure to try it!
Avocado
When I first saw my American friend cutting up an avocado and making sandwiches for her vegan daughter, I had no idea what kind of fruit it was. My first taste was not very exciting - I expected a bright fruity taste, but got a tender, oily one, similar to a young walnut with a milky taste. But I got a taste for it very quickly!
Finding great avocado quality in the States is no problem at all. If you are a vegan, avocado is a delicious source of healthy vegetable fats. Even if you are a meat-eater, a tasty fresh avocado is an excellent addition to the salad, the main ingredient in the popular Mexican snack guacamole and the perfect addition to sushi! Do not like avocados? Try it in the USA!
Lobster
I once wrote that in the US we came from Belgium, where various types of fish made up at least half of our diet. In the States, the same types of fish in ordinary supermarkets - just two and miscalculated. And the quality is so-so. But if you will be in the New England area in the summer and autumn, this is the north east coast of the USA, be sure to try the Atlantic lobster. Americans are definitely not ashamed of this seafood.
Even in ordinary supermarkets you can find a live lobster at a completely affordable price, not to mention the fact that in the outback, on the coast, you can get freshly caught even cheaper. What can I say, even if McDonald's includes lobster rolls in its menu in the season! In general, you will be in our area - do not forget about lobster.
Vegetable milk
I love milk and dairy products, and when people told me about veganism in my home country, I didn’t think about giving up meat, fish or eggs first — I’m not crazy about them. I just couldn’t imagine giving up dairy! But American vegans have it much easier in this sense: they have such a choice of plant-based milk, and it’s so delicious that I often give up regular milk!

Cashew milk, soy milk, coconut milk, almond milk, oat milk, and even hemp milk! The selection is huge and the taste is delicious. If you love milk but feel a little heavy in your stomach after drinking it, then in the US you have a great alternative option. And the cost of plant milk is not much more than the cost of regular milk. It is not some rare elite product - it is everywhere and in a wide range.
Wild salmon
Lately I have been seeing farmed salmon everywhere. I am sure that the same is sold in my homeland. It wins first of all in price - it is a very high-quality and quite affordable fish. My children really like that they eat "the fish that bears catch from the river with their paws". However, in the States there is a great opportunity to try the very fish that bears catch.
Wild salmon is noticeably more expensive than its congener grown on fish farms, but you will not regret if you take it. I’m not even talking about the salmon that you have caught yourself straight from the river in Alaska - I’m sure you will never forget it! But even that “caught in the wild”, which is sold in supermarkets is worth your attention. Its taste is just amazing!
Bagel
If you are from the USSR and you are nostalgic for Soviet bagels, you should definitely try the famous New York bagels. These bagels come from the Jewish communities of Poland and were brought to the USA by immigrants at one time, like many other now “truly American” dishes.
If coffee with a croissant is a French breakfast, then coffee with a bagel is New York. They are usually cut lengthwise into two thinner buns, spread with cream cheese on each and put between them the filling of your choice, but the most popular is probably salmon. If you need a sweet option, then definitely peanut butter and jam.
Ranch Sauce
Ranch dressing is the most popular salad dressing in the United States by sales. It was invented by Steve Henson while working as a contract carpenter in Alaska. When he returned home to California, he and his wife began serving it at their guest ranch. The dressing quickly became popular, Steve and his wife set up its industrial production, and 20 years later sold the business for millions. Such is the American dream.
On the subject: Foods that should not be bought in the supermarket
Ranch sauce is a mixture of mayonnaise, sour cream, cream, garlic, different types of onion, dill, parsley, salt, pepper. These seem like simple ingredients, but the mix turned out amazingly successful! This sauce is ideal as a dressing for light vegetable salads and is not sold anywhere except in the USA. It is definitely worth trying!
Sandwiches with tuna
Fish and seafood have always played a significant role in our family's diet. But we rarely bought tuna: it's expensive, and you need to know how to cook it. Children don't like it half-raw, and when fully cooked it's dry. We only had it in sushi. But in the US, tuna is incredibly popular, though not raw, but canned.
Canned tuna is a kind of tuna stew. Americans mix it with mayonnaise and season sandwiches with it. The pure contents of the can are still a bit dry for my taste, but with mayonnaise in a sandwich, it's simply delicious! By the way, you can try this deliciousness in our homeland - in American snack bars Subway. Their tuna sandwich is my favorite!
Corn dogs
Corn dogs could only have been invented in America. They are street food that is usually sold at fairs. According to legend, German immigrants who came to Texas encountered resistance when selling their sausages and decided to make something original out of them - wrap them in cornmeal dough and deep-fry them. The stick, like in ice cream, appeared in corn dogs later.
On the subject: Foods that you can lose weight
Quality corn dogs (if we can even talk about quality of this type of product) are fried right before serving, and you definitely need to try it! It's unusual, but delicious. However, enterprising Americans have started making ready-made and frozen corn dogs that you just need to heat up in the microwave. This is definitely not worth trying - it will ruin the experience.
Pulled pork
Pulled pork is supposed to be translated as pulled pork, but it is not pulled pork as we understand it. This is a purely American dish that you will not try anywhere else! Pulled pork is a pork shoulder cooked on a slow barbecue and then mashed into fibers and mixed with a special sweet sauce! Mmm - finger-licking good! Burgers and delicious pizza are made with this meat. Both are simply delicious! Definitely - this is an American highlight that deserves attention!
