The spouses of veterans can also claim these benefits, they are entitled to be buried near the veteran, a tombstone and care for the grave. The decision on each case is made by the VA, there are no specific selection rules.

Funeral benefits may range from 762 to 2000 dollars, depending on the date of death, and whether the death occurred during service or not associated with it.
