How to make extra money in 2023: the three most profitable part-time jobs

Part-time work is still a popular way for Americans to earn extra money. In some types of work, you can earn more, reports CNBC.

According to a May 2022 Zapier survey of 2032 American adults, almost half, 40% of Americans currently have a part-time job. This is 34% more than in December 2020.

Some part-time jobs may offer more opportunities than others, experts say.

“I would classify a whole group of growing part-time jobs as ‘pandemic hangover jobs’,” says Angelica Revers, founder Bold house, a consulting firm that helps small businesses find corporate clients. These are the jobs people are now being hired for as a result of post-pandemic transitions, such as caring for a new puppy or returning to events.

Here are three part-time jobs worth considering in 2023.

Work at events

“Events are back,” says Revers. Many people who run them will need help for days, weeks, maybe even months when they plan and run them.

Reverse's own company recently held a conference. “We were able to get a workforce that just showed up for the day,” she says. “And they were there to adjust the microphones, work the room, do registration, greet our speakers.” They earned between $20 and $35 an hour, she said.

Look for a variety of staff events on bulletin boards such as Indeed, ZipRecruiter и LinkedIn, search Facebook by typing "activities in the Boston area" for example, and see what kind of help providers are looking for. You can also create a profile on Taskrabbit with the kind of work you are interested in. According to TaskRabbit, party work on the site pays an average of $84 to $147 per event.

“They post jobs for video editing, copywriting, writing—basically anything related to digital marketing,” she says.

Take care of your pet

“In 2023, there will be a lot of requests for work with pets,” says Revers.

About 23 million American households adopted a cat or dog during the pandemic, according to the ASPCA. Work forces people to return to the office or other jobs, and life again allows travel, so many have to look for solutions to take care of pets when they are away.

Revers herself sees many independent pet daycares springing up where “people look after dogs from 8am to 5-6pm. They have six or seven dogs at home during the day.” In South Florida, people pay between $23 and $35 a day to leave their dog at a preschool.

If you don't have the opportunity to open your home for a pet, then you can still spend some time with him during the day or walk the local dog. "Website Rover quite profitable,” says Revers. The site is targeted at dog and cat owners and offers services such as visits and petting at home.

“Just be aware that they take 20% of your salary,” she says.

Tutor in a subject you know

As The New York Times reported in September, after the pandemic, reading and math scores for 9-year-olds in the US fell for the first time in decades.

To help their children catch up, many parents turn to after-school tutors for a variety of subjects. “Online tutoring is in huge demand right now,” says Revers. “And I think the demand will only grow as parents realize how much learning has been lost by not having their children in school every day.”

If you are an expert or have a solid knowledge base in subjects ranging from English to physics to history, consider offering your services on sites such as Varsity Tutors or Wyzant. On According to Sidehusl.com, the latter pays up to $100 an hour. You can also offer your tutoring services on Facebook or Nextdoor groups for local parents.
