How I immigrated and realized that America is not heaven on Earth

Many see America as a magical country, where dollars grow on trees, and instead of water in the oceans flows kissel. It seems that in this country all the cherished wishes of the people are fulfilled, and the people are completely free and happy. There is a lot to be said about the “ideal” American society, but American reality differs from the stereotypes.

The publication offered a look at American life from the inside through the eyes of someone who has been living in the “country of immigrants” for five years. ZTB.kz.

Galia Iskakova 30 years old, she is originally from Almaty, Kazakhstan. At one time, the girl received a higher education with a degree in management at the International Academy of Business. I came to the USA for the first time thanks to the well-known Work and Travel program.

“After that, I returned to Kazakhstan and built a career as a project manager, opening restaurants, boutiques for companies and investors. My life has always been active. I love all sports and dancing."

Finally, she left for America almost 5 years ago. Galia offered to do a project in Miami.

“I was offered to try my hand as a project manager. I went through 3 stages of the interview and heard the cherished: “Pack your bags.” Well, then America has always been Plan B for life, and everything turned out the way I apparently wanted in my heart.”

According to the Kazakh woman, in the States there is a different culture, a different rhythm of life, a different style of behavior and worldview.

“America is a land of opportunity, where it doesn’t matter whether you have connections or not. If you have the brains and the desire to be successful, then you can achieve almost any height. But you need to take into account that everyone is on their own here, but everyone has their own goals and strives for them. No one helps anyone, no one waits for anyone. If you want to achieve something, you can only rely on yourself.

Each state and the people in it are radically different from each other. America is not heaven on Earth, as everyone imagines, there are many pros and cons. But for newcomers, almost everything needs to start from scratch and learn everything around every day and every hour with an open heart and head.”

Galia lives in Miami and is currently engaged in the transition from big business to a more creative course.

“I am teaching dance, finishing a business plan for my own large dance school, selecting premises, teaching free dance classes in the best parks in Miami as part of my project “We dance Miami”, doing charity work, learning a holistic lifestyle.

I'm developing myself. My main goal in life is to help people learn to love themselves through self-expression in dancing, do only what they love, listen to their heart, their body (very important for women), respect themselves and understand their purpose.”

The Kazakhstan woman notes that creating a business in the United States is just as difficult as in Kazakhstan.

“I haven’t met anyone here who wants to help young businessmen. Yes, it is easier to find investors in the USA if the projects are interesting and well-calculated and presented. And so, visitors help each other most often. Well, you need to be careful with this. You need to rely only on yourself, this is one of the processes of growing up and adaptation.”

Galia believes that lately more and more Kazakhstanis are leaving for the United States because of the prevailing wrong stereotypes about life in America.

“It’s very sad, but yes, it is true. Unfortunately, in my opinion, it so happened that there was too much information on the Internet, in social networks about the “standard beautiful life in the States.” For young people, it’s like a magnet from the “neighbor’s grass is greener” series, and apparently it’s even “greener” abroad. However, these are just my guesses. Everyone thinks that everything here is easy, simple and beautiful. But that's not true. Wherever you are, you have to work, set goals, overcome yourself, etc. I can only speak for myself. I left because I felt more comfortable here. When I came and lived as a student, I felt freer and happier in this country.”

“This probably won’t sound very patriotic, but I left so as not to return. There is nothing special to justify here, I feel good here. But I love and respect my country and everything it has given me for my new life.”

Those who are going to go to live in the USA, Galia advises to know the language well and not soar in the clouds. And also clearly understand their plans, goals and their capabilities.

“If you are going for a miracle, then remember - this is just a different country, but you are the same, and wherever you go, you take yourself everywhere. And here everything is much more complicated and different. Understand your motives. If in doubt, research more information. If you believe in yourself and know where you are going, then the main advice is: “having chosen a goal, do not give up”! All will be!".
