This is the result of the analysis of the list of companies business publications Fortunewhich was analyzed in the new American think tank Center for American Entrepreneurship (CAE).

Analysts felt that 216 (that is, 43%) from 500 companies were created by immigrants or their descendants, including such influential ones as Google and IBM.

In fact, CAE researchers have found even more second-generation immigrants and second-generation immigrants among the founders of companies from the list. F: 52% of founders of the 25 companies with the highest income and 57% of the top 35.

In 2016, these companies employed a total of 12,8 million people worldwide and generated combined revenues of US$5,3 trillion—an amount comparable to the GDP of Japan, the world's third-largest economy.

The results of the CAE study were shown to several US congressmen - both Republicans and Democrats - in order to influence the adoption of measures to limit immigration that Donald Trump is implementing. We are talking, in particular, about the termination of the “Dreamers” program (Dreamers program), created in order to help 800 avoid being deported to thousands of undocumented young immigrants who were brought to the States illegally as children.

“The results are indicative, but should not come as a surprise. There is strong evidence across countries that immigrants are more likely to start their own businesses than natives. Some economists believe that those who take control of their destiny and move to another country are more likely to take a risk and start their own business. Second, the immigrant experience teaches one to be resourceful and to cope with uncertainty and failure. Thirdly, immigrants lack the social connections to get a job,” CAE research director Ian Hathaway explained to the BBC.

Hathaway noted that preserving the Dreamers program and creating special visas for immigrant entrepreneurs has more than humanitarian significance.

“From a humanitarian point of view, the damage is obvious: we will separate families and send children and young people to countries with which they have little connection. But there will certainly be economic consequences. It is likely that within two or three decades these 800 children and young people will create tens of thousands of American companies. Some of them may be included in the list in the future Fortune 500 ″.

The CAE study shows that the majority of 216 immigrants of the first or second generation are engaged in high-tech business (43), as well as in retail, finance and insurance (26). But in general, immigrant founders can be found in all industries list F, including the production of cars.

“The work ethic of forging your own path is typically instilled in children of immigrants. Many immigrants came to this country in search of a better life—whether to escape economic or political hardship, or both. This spirit of self-improvement and providing a better future for their children is instilled in such families from childhood. We have some evidence of this—a recent Harvard University study found that businesses started by immigrants brought to another country as children have better survival and growth rates,” adds Hathaway.

Every fourth company on the list F (24,8%) was founded by children of immigrants, and in this sense, programs protecting young immigrants are especially important.

“It’s amazing how important a role immigrant children play. This is a significant but often forgotten aspect. The economic impact of demographics develops slowly over time. Immigrants arriving in the United States today have one impact, but it is likely that their children, with better education and greater opportunities, will have a much greater impact on the economy in a few decades,” the expert says.
