How to 'calculate' ours in the American supermarket

I caught myself on the fact that I can often accurately identify my compatriots in the American supermarket. I thought it might be a call of blood or a sixth sense, but then I thought it was probably more prosaic, and decided to analyze how I do it.

Here are my observations:

1. Freezing cold

In American supermarkets (as well as in all other public places) is quite cold. And if in winter it is not very noticeable, then in summer, when there are slaps and a light dress on you, the temperature in 17 degrees in the supermarket can give you a good cheer. And if you came to the supermarket not for a loaf of bread, but for shopping for the whole week and in this “refrigerator” you have to spend at least an hour and a half, the need for warm sneakers with warm socks and sweaters (preferably with a hood) becomes an obvious necessity.

However, these attributes seem to be needed only by our people, because Americans, accustomed to the cold, continue to leisurely stroll through the rows in the same flip-flops and T-shirts. But if you meet a customer in a supermarket shivering from the cold or wrapped in a jacket, feel free to contact him in Russian, you won’t be mistaken, 95% out of 100, he will be one of ours.

2. Take a lot of packages

Despite the fact that in American supermarkets 80% of the weight products sold are already prepacked (nets, sudochki, baskets), there are still positions that can be bought by weight. Near the 5 types of apples, packaged in nets, there will always be a box from which you can collect apples yourself, as much as you need. So it will be with many positions in the vegetable department.

Americans usually do not abuse packages, because everyone knows that packages do not decompose and pollute the environment. Therefore, they can take a few apples, weigh them and put them in a cart without a package. For our people, caring for the environment is a myth for the rich. Therefore, we can put each apple in a separate package.

3. Dress beautifully

Let's start with the fact that our general always dress beautifully. In any case, they try and, in any case, “beautifully” to their own delicate taste. Maybe not in an evening dress will come to the store, but certainly not in pajamas. Therefore, if there is a day off in the courtyard, and someone is beautifully dressed in the store, take a look at them and listen. You may hear a familiar speech.

Americans have another extreme. Those can just come to the store in their pajamas. And not in a figurative sense, but in the very same pajamas in which they crawled out from under the blanket, well, or at least in which they walk around the house. Here it is necessary to make a reservation that black girls in poor areas can also “flash” when they come for shopping, but you will not confuse them with ours.

4. Weigh piece goods

I'm wondering if you can guess what I'm going to write about before I write it? Here's the thing. Many items in the states are sold individually. Watermelons for example, melons, pineapples. Everything that is in a crate or box costs the same. Take what looks at you - and go to the checkout! If you want to take a prettier and bigger one, no problem, choose. Why then weigh them?

And here's the answer: how can you tell in another way which pineapple is the biggest one? A few grams are not visible to the eye, and the scales will show! If we take the fate of the horns, then firmly: if the product is a few grams more at the same price, then you buy a few cents cheaper per kilo. The benefit, apparently, is not obvious to everyone, but to ours for sure!

5. Do not respond to the cashier’s greeting

The greeting in the USA is a bit unusual for our man. You are asked: “How are you?”, You must answer: “Great”, ask: “And how are you?” And get the answer “Excellent!”. Such is the game. How are things with you, nobody cares. Local cashiers say this mantra to all buyers.

Only our new arrivals, who are not yet accustomed to local realities, do not respond to the greeting. They are asked: “How are you?”, They answer something and are silent, do not ask anything in response. She herself often sinned with this, to confess, until one cashier at Walmart made me laugh to tears. To my question, “How are you doing?” He, without changing his dull facial expression, answered: “Oh so furiously. I live in a dream! ”. Now do not forget to ask again how they are doing.
