How a native of Belarus became a famous designer and dresses world stars

When the great-granddaughter of the founder of the famous Hilton hotels and socialite Paris Hilton married businessman Carter Reum, she purchased six wedding dresses from four different designers. One of these outfits was created by the world famous Israeli designer with Belarusian roots, Galia Lahav. How Galia gained such fame and achieved success, the publication told "Nasha Niva".

Described as sincere, authentic and full of energy, wedding dress and clothing designer Galia Lahav puts her heart and soul into creating unique designs. For over 35 years, Lahav and her team have been creating beautiful custom couture dresses for brides and celebrities around the world. She is considered one of the main leaders in the world of luxury fashion and has no plans to slow down, writes Nearlynewlywed.

Galia was born in Pinsk (Belarus) in 1952, and her mother, despite working as an accountant, was always interested in sewing and passed this passion on to her daughter. When Galiya was five years old, their family moved from Belarus to Israel and settled in the city of Ashkelon. After graduating from school, Galia entered the College of Textile Technology, Fashion and Design, and then became a teacher of decorative and applied arts.

She married her high school sweetheart, Nathan Love. When she was 32 years old and her children, son Idan and daughter Osnat, had already grown up, Galia decided to realize her dream of creating her own fashion brand. She left her teaching job, opened a small atelier in Ashdod and began creating lace appliques, first for evening dresses and then for wedding dresses.

Her voluminous dresses became quickly recognizable for their extravagance, floridness and signature illusion backs. Lahav now creates his designs to each bride's individual measurements to ensure a perfect fit.

In 2016, Galia Lahav became the first Israeli fashion house to present its collection at Paris Fashion Week. A year later, it became the first Israeli brand to be accepted into the prestigious Syndicate of Haute Couture in Paris.

Today, the fashion house Galia Lahav is located in a four-story building on Tel Aviv's main shopping street, and its wedding dresses are sold in 40 countries through 70 of its own boutiques and premium stores. The company has flagship stores in Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Shanghai and Hamburg and offers free shipping worldwide.

Galia's children, son Idan and daughter Osnat, also joined the family business, and in 2005, Idan Lahav became CEO of the Galia Lahav fashion house and helped expand the company's activities internationally.

Many famous personalities got married in dresses from Galia Lahav, including Britney Spears, Olivia Munn, Ksenia Sobchak and Nastasya Shubskaya. Dutch TV presenter and model Sylvia Meis paid 28 thousand euros (almost $30 thousand) for an outfit from this famous Israeli brand.

For her vow renewal ceremony after 10 years of marriage to Jay-Z, Beyoncé also chose a Galia Lahav dress. And Priyanka Chopra chose him for the premiere of the film “The Pursuit of Happyness.” Among the fans of Galia Lahav's talent you can find the names of such celebrities as Jennifer Lopez, Serena Williams, Christina Aguilera and many others.

Prices for formal wear from Galia Lahav range from $8 to $15, and special designs can even cost over $20.

To create these romantic and dramatic designs, Lahav relies on the help of a very special person—his former arts and crafts student, Sharon Sever. After leaving his Israeli home, Sever went to Paris to pursue his dream of becoming a fashion designer. He trained at leading Parisian fashion houses such as Christian Lacroix and Pierre Balmain. Lahav always admired Sever's talent and eventually invited him to work for her as her head designer. The North easily agreed.

Lahav and Sever look to music, art and film for inspiration, while keeping an eye on future trends. All designs are handcrafted at the Lahav studio in Tel Aviv using high quality fabrics and sophisticated sewing techniques. It takes six months to a year to create a single dress, giving the team plenty of time to create the perfect wedding dress for each bride, Sever said.
