How was the 'Oscar-2023': donkey, bear, Navalny and the strange color of the red carpet

Oscars were handed out in Hollywood. The sci-fi action film “Everything Everywhere and at Once” was the winner of the 95th Academy Awards ceremony, reports with the BBC.

Comedian Jimmy Kimmel hosted the ceremony. At one point, he brought a donkey onto the stage, declaring that it was a full-fledged heroine of the Martin McDonagh film “The Banshee of Inisherina”, nicknamed Jenny. He called the animal a "certified emotional support donkey."
One donkey was not limited.

Subsequently, actress Elizabeth Banks came out to present the award for best special effects, along with an actor in a bear costume.

“I recently did a movie called Cocaine Bear, and without the visual effects the bear would have looked like this,” Banks joked.

Oscar winner Ke Hui Quan, who received the award for Best Supporting Actor, gave a very emotional performance on stage. He cried and thanked his mother, and also spoke about his journey as a migrant from Vietnam: “My journey began on a boat, I spent a year in a refugee camp and somehow ended up here on the biggest stage in Hollywood.”

As a child, he played in the film about Indiana Jones. He repeated the moment from the picture at the Oscar ceremony, hugging Garrison Ford.
Lady Gaga, who first appeared at the ceremony in a dress from the new Versace collection, took the stage in ripped jeans and no makeup.

Nothing should have distracted the audience from her performance of “Hold My Hand.”

Dancers from the Indian film RRR performed on stage. The film won an Oscar for best song. Host Kimmel joked that the dancers from the RRR movie would show up behind every winner whose speeches went on for too long.

Jimmy Kimmel joked that Hollywood was running out of ideas because Steven Spielberg had to make a movie about Steven Spielberg. He was referring to the best picture-nominated autobiographical film The Fabelmans.

The American comedian described Avatar: The Way of Water as "another opportunity for James Cameron to do what he loves best - drown Kate Winslet" (the actress was also in Cameron's Titanic).

Nigerian singer Tems appeared in a dress from the Ukrainian brand Lever Couture. Previously, Tina Karol and British actress Wallis Day demonstrated it on themselves.

“This year I’m entering a new era... For the first time since 1961, the red carpet at the Oscars will not be red. The organizers have chosen a shade of champagne, reports Slow.

In the past few decades, the red carpet has always remained red, only the shades have changed. The decision to change the color to light was taken, among other things, by creative consultant Lisa Love. The organizers explained this by saying that they wanted to turn the event into an evening event, as for them there was a discrepancy between the fact that guests arrive in elegant outfits during the day.

“I think the decision to make the champagne red carpet shows how confident we are that no blood will be shed at the awards,” said event host Jimmy Kimmel.

The film "Navalny" won the "Oscar" award

Canadian director Daniel Roer's film "Navalny" won an Oscar in the category "Best Documentary Film", reports Meduza. The film tells about the poisoning of Alexei Navalny by Novichok, his treatment and return to Russia.

During the award ceremony, the director thanked investigators Hristo Grozev and Maria Pevchikh, as well as the family of Alexei Navalny - wife Yulia, daughter Daria and son Zakhar. All of them received the award on stage along with the director. “Thank you for your courage. The whole world is with you,” Roer said.

“I would like to dedicate this award to Alexei Navalny and all political prisoners around the world,” the director said.

"Alexei, the world has not forgotten your vital message to us all: We cannot, we must not be afraid to oppose dictators and authoritarianism wherever it rears its head."

Navalny's wife also made a short speech.

“My husband is in prison just for telling the truth. My husband is in prison only for defending democracy. Alexey, I dream of the day when you become free. And our country will become free. Stay strong my love,” she said.

The film was commissioned by the streaming service HBO Max and CNN Films.

The statuette is not the only prize

But if the nominees didn't go home with the coveted gold statuette, they at least received a very generous $126 gift package as a consolation. Independent.
