How to distinguish coronavirus from the common cold: doctor's advice

The new Chinese coronavirus disease COVID-19 is slowly sneaking into other countries. Doctors say that the manifestations of coronavirus are very similar to the symptoms of other acute respiratory viral infections, therefore, they do not recommend delaying seeking medical help, writes "Observer".

Doctor Dmitry Simkin wrote on his Instagram page that the coronavirus could not be confused with “less dangerous” colds, and spoke about the differences that will make it clear which pathogen attacked you.

“The coronavirus appears suddenly. Often at the beginning of acute respiratory viral infections you seem to balance: to be sick, not to be sick, which is felt very clearly. However, in the case of COVID-2019, everything is different! The disease begins abruptly, without previous symptoms, ”the expert writes.

He emphasizes that when infected with COVID-2019, body temperature can rise to 39,5 degrees in a short time and stay at that level constantly. With a cold, the body temperature usually does not exceed 38 degrees.

According to the doctor, weakness and fatigue accompany any viral infection, but with COVID-2019 these conditions are more noticeable and powerful.

“In the late stages of coronavirus infection, you can feel severe shortness of breath, chest pain and tachycardia. It is worth noting that this symptom is the most dangerous of all of the above, ”the doctor concluded.
