Sources in the Israeli intelligence service explained that the Iranians discovered the hacking of the archive and tried to identify those involved and even “got on their tail.” According to a report by Channel 2 ITV, on January 31, 2018, 100 thousand documents from a warehouse in an industrial zone in the south of Tehran fell into the hands of Mossad intelligence officers. It was one of the Islamic Republic's best-kept secrets—the archive of its nuclear program. From that moment on, the second stage of the Mossad operation began - the evacuation of documents.

As follows from the already published information, the first confirmation that there is an archive of the Iranian nuclear program, Mossad made back in February 2016, a month before the agreement between the Islamic Republic and the 6 powers entered into force.

All documents from the last 15 years of development of the nuclear program were located in a heavily guarded facility located in an industrial zone in the south of Tehran. Satellite images, which were published in the open press, do not allow us to understand what exactly is located in the thickness of the earth. However, from a number of details it can be understood that this is an object of special importance and carefully guarded. For example, a high fence is equipped with watchtowers every 25 meters. There are six entrances to the territory, each approximately 10 m long (to ensure the passage of particularly large vehicles). There are several buildings inside. In addition, the facility was guarded by S-300 air defense systems.

Israeli intelligence was developing the facility in two directions: firstly, the “human factor”, and secondly, monitoring that the dossier did not leave the secret bunker.

It was a large-scale operation in which various structures were involved. A lot of money was spent - but these amounts were not disclosed.

To accomplish the task, and it can already be said today, several units of the Mossad were involved. And if some were engaged in monitoring, analysis, then others acted directly on the territory of Iran. At the same time, unlike in previous years, Israeli agents did not have to rely on the help of friendly intelligence services, including American ones. Mossad was left alone in the forefront.

Not only was it not easy to steal the complete archive of the secret nuclear project "Amad" (Amad), but also deliver it to Israel. To be clear, this is not microfilm, packed in a jar of candy, or flash drives with records. These are originals - 100.000 documents (folders, papers, drawings, CD-carriers) weighing half a ton.

When the archive was brought to Israel, a large group of translators, analysts, and nuclear scientists began their work. It is reported that the IDF military intelligence officers (AMAN) were also involved.

Why was it decided to make this file public?

Why did Israel reveal such sensitive information? There was a lot of controversy about this. Initially, it was proposed to do as is usually done: not confirm or refute anything, while at the same time arranging a “leak to the Western media.”

It was feared that, by revealing the details of the operation, Israel would cause damage to its sources, and even more alert the counterintelligence of the enemy. But in the end, after a meeting with ministers in the office, Netanyahu decided to make a statement. And it had its own purpose.

In the near future, Israeli intelligence services will familiarize their colleagues in Germany, France, Russia, Italy, China, Great Britain, as well as the IAEA, with the contents of the “nuclear dossier”.

It is difficult to say whether this will lead to a dramatic change in the international community's attitude towards Iran. But what no one doubts is the amazing capabilities of Israeli intelligence. Everyone was convinced of this once again. First of all, in Iran.

We add that on Tuesday morning, May 1, the US State Department reported that familiarization with the nuclear archive of Iran, which was at the disposal of Israeli intelligence, leaves no doubt that this is about the original documents. A statement was made by Mike Pompeo, the recent head of the CIA.
