The White House told how Muller forced Cohen to speak out against Trump
February 27 Former Donald Trump Attorney Michael Cohen spoke against the head of the White House on a range of issues, from the 2017 Charlottesville violence and Trump's summit with Vladimir Putin in Helsinki to the president's Twitter style. Cohen called Trump a racist, a fraud and a liar. But key official of the presidential administration and Trump's representative in court Lynne Patton said that the former lawyer made loud statements under pressure.
According to Patton, there is a significant reason for Cohen’s betrayal - his wife faces imprisonment if Cohen does not “take up arms” against Trump, writes Fox News.
This announcement was made by Lynn Patton. in Facebook back in January, but taking into account the testimony of Cohen, obtained by 27 February, has acquired a new relevance.
“Many of you may not know, and I can personally confirm, that the ONLY reason Michael Cohen was “up in arms” against the President of the United States is because Mueller threatened to send his wife to prison for up to 30 years. Period,” Patton wrote on January 18.
"She is a co-guarantor of a personal loan in the amount of 20 million dollars, which Michael received in 2015 due to the false overestimation of the cost of his taxi medallions (Cohen took money in two new york banks secured by taxi licenses and could distort the value of his assets - approx. ed.). He actually made her an integral part of the federal prosecution. ”
Despite Patton’s suggestion that Muller has jurisdiction over loan issues, the US attorney’s office in the Southern District of New York investigated and filed charges against Cohen. Muller accused Cohen only in false statements to Congress.
Patton says he considers Cohen "one of his best friends." She is not the first to suggest that Cohen’s wife is at risk. In December, The Wall Street Journal reported that prosecutors had evidence of its involvement in potential criminal activities, but clarified that it had never been indicted.
The president also mentioned Cohen’s wife in his tweet in December: “He comes up with stories to get a great and already abbreviated deal for himself and free his wife and father-in-law from the consequences (who has money?).”
Trump also challenged the truthfulness of Cohen's statements, citing the recently published proposal of The Daily Mail. The publication received an exclusive offer from Cohen, dated 24 January 2018. Apparently, it was about the book, which represented the president in a positive way. Cohen reportedly prepared a possible deal with book publishers just a few weeks before the FBI raided his office.
Trump said that exposing Cohen's business proposal contradicts his testimony in Congress. Positive texts about the president were written after incidents that Cohen called turning points (including Charlottesville). So, the situation is completely discrediting him, Trump said.
