Air travel has been suspended, schools are closed, store shelves are empty, the economy is collapsing - how long will the pandemic last and how quickly will countries be able to recover? Experts differ in their assessments.
In early March, Walter Ricciardi, a representative of the World Health Organization (WHO), compared the COVID-19 pandemic and SARS (2002) and said that life would return to “normal” in May-June.
Melissa Nolan, a professor of epidemiology at the University of South Carolina, agrees and believes that the peak of the disease will occur in April-May, and then decline.
But some experts suggest that even if the pace of infection slows down in the summer, COVID-19 may return in the fall. At the same time, Ogbonnaya Omenka, a representative of the Butler University College of Pharmacology, adds that Australia, where the hot summer ends, also suffered from a pandemic, so it’s still not known exactly how the virus behaves at high temperatures.

New York Mayor De Blasio believes that the crisis in the United States through the coronavirus will last at least another six months. Therefore, the city authorities are considering the possibility of restricting movement in the city and closing catering establishments.
Spring break is currently underway in US schools, and due to the outbreak of the virus, most US states have extended it for another two weeks. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said he "wouldn't be surprised if schools don't reopen this school year."
At the same time, some experts believe that it is schools that can distribute a significant number of diseases, in particular COVID-19, among populations of all ages.
