For the anniversary of the Revolution of Dignity, the United States called on the Ukrainian authorities to fulfill the promises of the Maidan
The State Department called on the Ukrainian authorities to intensify comprehensive reforms to unlock the country's potential.
The United States reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ukraine on the fourth anniversary of the “Revolution of Dignity”, during which the pro-Russian government of Viktor Yanukovich was dismissed, writes “Voice of America".
“Four years ago, Ukrainians, representing all sectors of society and all regions of the country, gathered on the Maidan, the central square of Kiev, and demanded that the government recognize the choice of Ukrainian citizens to be reunited with Europe,” said State Department spokesman Heather Neuert.
She recalled that dozens of Ukrainians, “Heavenly Hundred,” gave their lives on the Maidan for the dream of a better Ukraine.
“The United States will continue to support Ukraine, which is facing ongoing Russian aggression that killed more than 10 thousands of people, and forced more than 1,6 to a million Ukrainians to leave their homes,” said Neuert.
Neuert said that over the past four years, Ukraine has taken important steps, but noted that more work remains to be done to fulfill Maidan’s promises and unleash Ukraine’s potential.
“The United States calls on Ukrainian leaders to redouble their efforts to carry out the deep, comprehensive, and urgent reforms needed to create a stable, democratic, prosperous, and free country that Ukrainians deserve,” said Neuert. “We are proud to work with the people of Ukraine in memory of the victims suffered four years ago for the European choice of Ukraine.”
