Media: J.D. Vance's cousin fought in Ukraine
US Vice President J.D. Vance's cousin fought for Ukraine as part of the Da Vinci Wolves unit. We are talking about Nate Vance, reports RBC-Ukraine with reference to Le Figaro.

According to the French publication, Nate Vance served in the US Marine Corps for four years before moving to Texas and working for an oil company. In March 2022, he traveled to Lviv to "see history in the making."
There he met a British volunteer who was looking for people to serve in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Vance eventually accepted the offer and went to Donbass in June.

"Nate was older than us. We went to the shooting range. He took an AK-47 without a scope and set up a target at a distance of 800 meters. Everyone laughed at him. But when Nate hit the target five times in a row, the laughter stopped," shared his friend Dmytro.
Nate Vance is known to have fought in Honor Company.
"He is a great fighter, cold-blooded. We should have died fifteen times - fifteen times we were lucky to survive," said Sergei Filimonov, commander of the Da Vinci Wolves battalion.
As Le Figaro reports, the brother of the US Vice President took part in the most violent battles between Russia and Ukraine. Among them were the battles for Kupyansk, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Pokrovsk.
He left the service in January 2025, but intends to continue helping Ukraine. According to him, J.D. Vance never tried to find out about his combat experience, and Nate is disappointed with his cousin's stance on the war.

Le Figaro reports that when he heard his brother harshly criticise Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, he felt anger and disappointment.
"J.D. is a good and smart guy. When he criticized aid to Ukraine, I thought it was a necessary measure, that he needed to take into account the opinion of a certain electorate and that it was just a political maneuver. But what they did with Zelensky in the White House was an ambush. It is extremely dishonest."
"Even though we are related, I will not accept that you are facilitating the murder of my comrades," Nate said to his brother.
