Famous Russian director moves to USA

Russian director Yuri Mamin declared his readiness to leave Russia and move to the United States. According to the 72-year-old native of St. Petersburg, in America he will have much more opportunities for creative realization.

At the same time, in his homeland, says Mamin, he "does not have the opportunity to work, make a movie." In the US, the director plans to go with his wife, actress Lyudmila Samokhvalova, writes "MK ".

The director has long spoken about his dissatisfaction with cinema in Russia. At one of the cinematic meetings in Moscow, Yuri Mamin defended two of his projects - “Window to Paris, 20 years later” and “The Joy of Love for Joyce”, which he wanted to shoot with the participation of animated film director and Oscar winner Alexander Petrov. Then he complained that the Cinema Fund spends all the money on weak projects of large studios, and leaves the rest “a penny for the fight”: “I came for a fool. Maybe they'll give it to you. The whole country lives like this. Just to get something, and the matter is secondary. People have no ambitions, no desire to make the best film that would remain in history. Everyone just wants money. I haven’t learned to live like that.”

Yuri Mamin was born 8 May 1946. At the end of 60, he graduated from LGITMiK (now the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts), where he studied at the directing department of the Faculty of Dramatic Art in the workshop of the national artist Leonid Makariev. In 70, Yuri worked as a director at Lenconcert, and also worked as an assistant director at the Lenfilm film studio, taking part in creating a number of films, including tapes Widows, Sergey Ivanovich Retires, Fantasy Faryatyev , "Summer trip to the sea" and others.

Breakthrough for Mamin's career was the next decade, during which the movie “Neptune's Holiday”, the cinematographer’s full-fledged directorial debut, was released. In addition, he has worked at the Theater on Liteiny, as well as staging several famous film projects, including Fountain, Sideburns, Window to Paris, Don't Think About White Monkeys and Rains in the Ocean.
