Famous American brand to release clothes that can fight coronavirus
Several major apparel brands are currently introducing new clothing lines made with coronavirus-resistant materials. Writes about it Fox Business.
Denim brand Diesel has unveiled an antiviral fabric for its jeans, a material that it claims "physically stops 99% of any viral activity." The company plans to launch a clothing line in 2021. The brand has teamed up with Swedish company Polygiene to develop clothing protection technology that can kill viral activity within two hours of contact between pathogens and fabric.
Polygiene ViralOff has developed a fabric that protects against viruses, including the COVID-19 pathogen, and “works by interacting with key proteins that prevent the virus from attaching to textile fibers.” The fabric contains an active biocide, a “reaction mass” of titanium dioxide and silver chloride. The company says it can be used on any garment, including face masks. However, the disclaimer on the company's website states that the face mask "will never stop viruses from passing through it, but we can guarantee that viruses will not live long in and on it."
On the subject: Scientists have developed a coating that destroys coronavirus on surfaces
Studies have shown that most often people contract the coronavirus through airborne respiratory droplets when someone coughs or sneezes, and doctors say they do not expect antiviral tissue technology to be as important in preventing infection.
“I'm not sure that cloth that kills the virus, if it does, is much more beneficial than spraying a little sanitizer on it if you're so worried about virus droplets getting on your jeans. It's about what goes into your respiratory system, said Dr. Len Horowitz, an internist and pulmonologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. “This may be a good marketing strategy, but I’m not sure it will help reduce the spread of the virus.” If you wear antiviral jeans and a jacket and don’t wear a mask, what good are they?”
However, a number of brands have released antiviral fabric clothing. Like Diesel, London-based menswear company Apposta is also promoting fabrics that can prevent "the spread of bacteria and viruses, including COVID-19" and "reduce the likelihood and rate of infection by killing bacteria and viruses on contact."
