Israelis will be allowed to enter America without visas: what is known about this innovation

The head of the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Alejandro Mallorcas said the United States is considering adding four countries to its visa-free travel program, which allows citizens to enter the States without a visa for up to 90 days. Writes about it Reuters.

“We have four countries in the pipeline: Israel, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Romania,” Mayorkas said. “We are very, very focused on the program.”

In September, the United States added Croatia to its visa-free travel program. Roger Doe, CEO of the U.S. Travel Association, said it would bring $ 100 million to the U.S. economy.

“Every time a country is added, the number of visits from that country increases,” Doe said.

Following a meeting between US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, Biden stressed that “his administration will strengthen bilateral cooperation with Israel in ways that benefit both US citizens and Israeli citizens, including by working together on inclusion of Israel in the visa-free entry program ”.

Mallorcas met with the Israeli ambassador to the United States in August and discussed the issue of visa waiver.

Mallorcas spoke with the European Commissioner for Home Affairs in February and both "expressed their continued interest in maintaining the US-EU Passenger Names Agreement and working with Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus and Romania to meet the visa-free travel program requirements."

Currently, a visa to the United States for Israeli citizens is issued for a period of 10 years, but you can stay in the United States for no more than 6 months during 1 trip. To obtain a visa, you must go through the standard procedures: fill out an application, provide a photo, pay the fee, indicate the reason for traveling to the States, provide a bank statement and pass an interview.

To participate in the program, a country must meet the requirements for counter-terrorism, law enforcement, immigration enforcement, document security, and border management.

Now 40 countries participate in the program.

“These requirements include a nonimmigrant visa denial rate of less than 3%, the issuance of secure travel documents, and close cooperation with U.S. law enforcement and counterterrorism authorities,” DHS said.
