Israel proposes to deprive Palestine of funds that support terrorists

The Israeli Ministry of Defense, together with the Ministry of Justice, developed a draft law aimed at preventing the Palestinian Authority from paying money to terrorists and their families.

Work on the document lasted for several months and was coordinated with the data of the Israeli special services, according to official website of the party “Our Home is Israel”To which belongs the Minister of Defense Avigdor Lieberman, who initiated the development of the bill.

According to the draft law, at the end of each year, the Israeli Defense Minister must submit a report to the national security commission, which will set out data on the total amount of direct and indirect payments to the Palestinian Authority to terrorists. Based on these data, Israel will deduct money allocated by the country for the needs of the Palestinian Authority.

If the law is passed, any transfer of money or money equivalent to the Palestinian Authority to imprisoned terrorists or members of their families for their crime will fall under its action. It is also about money or money equivalent, which are transferred to those who were injured during the commission of terrorist acts or in the process of preparing for them, as well as to the members of the families of the terrorists killed or injured in similar cases.

According to Lieberman, the Palestinian Authority pays more than a billion shekels (about $ 290 million) annually to terrorists and their families, and thus encourages terrorism.

“The availability of payments and their size are determined in accordance with the seriousness of the crime and the length of imprisonment, that is, someone who killed and was sentenced to life imprisonment receives much more. This is financing terrorism against Israeli citizens. Nothing demonstrates the Palestinian Authority's support for terror more than these payments. It is our duty to stop this,” he said.

The draft law on the termination of payments in the coming weeks will be considered by the Commission on Legislation of the Ministry of Defense, after which it will be put to a vote by the Knesset.

According to the Palestinian Autonomy, in 2017, its administration paid over 550 million shekels (about $ 160 million) to Palestinian prisoners and prisoners, and suicide terrorists and injured families about 687 million shekels (about $ 199 million). These payments make up approximately 7% of the total Palestinian Authority budget.

Payouts look like this:

• A terrorist sitting in an Israeli prison from 3 to 5 years gets 2000 shekels ($ 580) per month.
• A terrorist convicted from 20 to 35 years gets 10 000 shekels ($ 2900) per month for the rest of his life.
• A married terrorist receives an allowance of 300 shekels ($ 87) per month and another 50 shekels ($ 15) for each child.
• A terrorist from Jerusalem receives a bonus of 300 shekels ($87) per month, and a terrorist with Israeli citizenship receives a bonus of 500 shekels ($145) per month.

For comparison: the average salary in Judea and Samaria is about 2000 shekels ($ 580) per month.

Recall that in early January, the Israeli Knesset previously supported a bill that simplifies the death penalty for terrorists.
