In New York, there were communities that live in boats
Renting an apartment in New York is becoming more expensive, and the way out can be a rejection of life in the city and moving to a ship.
In New York there are special communities of people who live in boats, but they are not too numerous, writes NY Post.
The cost of parking at the dock and renting a ship is also increasing in recent years, but it is still much lower than renting apartments.
Will Haduch, 26, has lived on a yacht in Jersey City, New Jersey, since 2014, and says life on a yacht can be a great adventure (minus the rocking). According to him, the best thing is the view from the window, which every New Yorker dreams of getting from his apartment.
He pays about $700 to rent the ship, which is significantly lower than the average $2 a month rent for an apartment in New York.
This life suits the young man - he recently quit his job in construction and began working as a deck hand. In this way, he learned new skills and also made many friends working at the dock.
32-year-old Christina Marino also preferred a ship to an apartment. The woman works in marketing and has her own jewelry line. She spends every summer on a small yacht and lives in an apartment in Williamsburg in the winter.
She prefers to spend the summer on the ship, because, according to her, this is a great place for communication and new acquaintances.
She likes life on the yacht, although there is no Internet, running water and poor mobile communications.
30-year-old scientist Pavel Kokorek also lives in a boat he bought in 2013 for $ 3,5 thousands. Now he lives there with his girlfriend Aiva. They also own 2 ships that are leased on Airbnb.
On the boat, the steam lives without running water and electricity; in total, ship maintenance costs them $ 300 per month.
Also, Denis de la Cedra, an 54-year-old tattoo artist and an artist, and other New Yorkers decided to move to the boat in search of savings when paying for accommodation.
