"Typical serial killer" escaped from a psychiatric clinic in the United States

A dangerous 12 patient in November escaped from a psychiatric clinic in Hawaii, from where he was able to fly to Maui, and then to San Jose, California.

When he was admitted to the clinic, experts described Randall Saito as “a typical serial killer,” reports NBC.

In 1979, a man was found not guilty of murder because he committed it because of insanity. He has been at the clinic since then, but on November 12 he left the facility, sat in a taxi waiting for him, and got on a charter flight before the State Health Department learned of his absence.

Employees of the clinic notified the law enforcement officers about the escape of the patient only 8 hours after it happened.

Law enforcement officers found that 59-year-old Saito flew from Honolulu to Maui, and from there to San Jose.

It remains unknown whether a man remains in this city or moves on, according to police, Saito’s relatives live in San Jose. His search is engaged in the US Marshals and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The office of the Attorney General of Hawaii accused Saito of flight and issued a warrant for his arrest, which is applicable in all US 50 states.

Police published photos of the fugitive, who was last seen in a red jacket.

"He is a very dangerous person," said Wayne Tashima, a Honolulu prosecutor.

He stressed that it is dangerous to approach or come into contact with Saito, since there is a possibility that he may again commit "violent crimes". Anyone who sees a man is advised to call the police.

Saito was admitted to hospital in the year 1981 after the court, citing the defendant’s insanity, acquitted him of killing 29-year-old Sandra Yamasiro. He was not acquainted with a woman, she was an accidental victim. Saito repeatedly shot her in the face with a traumatic pistol and inflicted numerous knife wounds.

Her body was found in a car parked near a shopping center in Honolulu.

Saito's lawyers tried to get him released from the hospital in 2000, but Jeff Albert, the deputy city prosecutor, objected, saying that Saito "fully fits all the criteria of a classic serial killer."

In 1993, the court rejected Saito’s request for a conditional release, citing medical findings that he continued to suffer from sexual sadism and necrophilia.

The Hawaii Department of Health has stated that Saito is extremely dangerous. Anyone who has information about his whereabouts is asked to contact the Honolulu Police Criminal Investigation Department: (808) 723-3609 or local law enforcement.
