A hotel train will be launched from Los Angeles to San Francisco: why it’s worth a ride

Traveling between Los Angeles and San Francisco can be an interesting experience. A hotel on a train is a great option for travelers. Dreamstar Lines plans to put it into operation this summer, reports TravelPath.

There is currently little information regarding the first luxury overnight train between the two cities, but a few things are known. Considering that this is happening in a state known for its bureaucratic problems, it is not surprising that the project has already been delayed.

Dreamstar clearly has ambitions to launch the train this coming summer. But when you think about a short flight, you don't immediately consider travel time to the airport, TSA agents and possible delays.

With gas prices being the highest in the country, traveling by car is also out of the question. So, there's clearly a gap in the market that Dreamstar is trying to fill.

The question now is, can this finally come to fruition?

Project with history

Back in the 40s and 50s, the luxury train known as The Lark was favored by the Hollywood elite, businessmen and entertainers.

As air travel became increasingly popular, rail service declined over the years and eventually ceased to exist in the late 1960s.

The Lark is doing well, but now it's Dreamstar's turn to take over and offer a modern take on the concept.

Hotel train or sleeper train

If you have traveled abroad, especially in Europe, you have probably encountered sleeper trains. They exist in the US, but the concept is more popular abroad.

If you have the courage to board said sleeper train, then you probably know that this is not a full night's rest.

Chances are, you arrived at your destination drunk, bloodshot-eyed, and desperate for coffee. But Dreamstar's concept will be different from all of this.

Rather than being called just another sleeper train, the new concept envisions a railway hotel where the focus will be on hospitality and comfort rather than just getting you from point A to point B.

The train is scheduled to depart around 22:00 p.m. and arrive at 9:00 a.m. Ticket prices range from $300 to $1000 depending on the number you choose. You will be able to buy tickets using the application. See latest information here.

Alternative to Amtrak trains and buses

Let's be honest: planes are the most efficient way to travel between these cities, but traveling by train can be a lot more fun!

Amtrak is the current option for train travel, but it's as simple as it gets. The company made headlines last year and was even publicly shamed by Congress for its lack of performance.

The same goes for traveling by bus, where you'll definitely save money compared to the train, but the seats are often just as crowded as planes and it's not nearly as fast a method of travel.

In addition, you are unlikely to have heard of anyone being delighted with long trips by bus.

Is it worth visiting Los Angeles and San Francisco?

San Francisco is still a beautiful city full of cultural districts and wonderful attractions, but the increase in crime is a concern.

It's the same with Los Angeles, a city with many instantly recognizable attractions, including the bright lights of Hollywood and world-famous beaches. In the wake of the pandemic, both metropolitan areas have made headlines, especially regarding downtown safety.
