Study: One in Eight US Residents Is an Immigrant

The total number of immigrants in the United States (legal and illegal) in July 2016 reached an all-time high of 43,7 million, an increase of half a million since 2015, 3,8 million since 2010, and 12,6 million - from the year 2000.

This is evidenced by the report. Immigration Research Center (CIS), based on official statistics from the Census Bureau.

The report also presented some other interesting facts about immigrants in the United States.

Immigrants (legal and illegal), as of 2016, accounted for 13,5% of the total US population. That is, one out of every eight people in the United States was an immigrant, which is the highest last xnumx years. In 106, only every 1980 resident of the country was an immigrant.

Between 2010 and 2016, a million new immigrants settled in the US 8,1, with about 300 000 immigrants returning home from the United States every year, and the natural mortality reduces the number of immigrants in the United States by about 300 000 people each year. As a result, the increase in the number of immigrants amounted to 3,8 million people in the period from 2010 to 2016 year.

In addition, in 2016, more than 16,6 million juveniles born in the United States and having American citizenship lived with immigrant parents in the United States. In total, immigrant parents and their children, born in the USA, in 2016 were 60,4 million people, that is, every fifth resident of the United States belonged to this group.
