Artificial intelligence set a record for reading human thoughts

Scientists from Stanford have set a new record for the Brain-Computer Interface (BCI), achieving a record high rate of language decoding.

The brain-computer system allowed a study participant who can no longer speak clearly due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis to speak his mind. The Brain-Computer Interface helped a person to use a 50-word dictionary (at a 9,1% error rate) and a 125-word dictionary (at a 000% error rate).

The new record is that the decoding speed of the AI ​​language reached 62 words per minute, which is 3,4 times faster than the previous record for any kind of BCI. For comparison, the average speed of a typical conversation is about 160 words per minute.

The scientists noted that an improved language model would reduce the error rate to 17,4% when using a dictionary with 125 words, and some methods can reduce the rate to 000%.
