'Body pains disappeared': a pensioner was vaccinated against COVID-19 eight times and is very satisfied

In India, a pensioner was vaccinated against COVID-19 at least eight times. This was reported by the Ministry of Health of the country, writes BBC.

However, the 65-year-old Brahmdeo Mandal himself stated that he received 11 doses.

According to him, the vaccine helped him get rid of the pain and "stay healthy." He also claims to have had no side effects.

Mandal wanted another dose last week, but was refused.

The authorities are currently investigating how a retired former postman who lives with his family in Bihar state managed to get vaccinated so many times.

“We've already found evidence that he received eight shots at four different vaccination sites,” said surgeon Amarendra Pratap Shahi.

The COVID-19 vaccination kicked off in India on January 16, 2021. They are vaccinated mainly with Covishield from the Indian Serum Institute and Covaxin from Bharat Biotech.

The interval between the two doses is 12 to 16 weeks and four to six weeks after the first dose, respectively.

Vaccination is voluntary; more than 90 thousand centers, mostly state-owned, operate in the country.

These include the so-called vaccination camps, where you can get vaccinated without prior online registration. It is enough to provide proof of identity: biometric card, voter ID or driver's license.

Information about the vaccinated is received from the websites of the vaccination centers on the state portal CoWin.

The investigation found that Mandal was able to receive "two injections at intervals of half an hour" in one day, and each of the injections "was registered on the portal."

“We do not understand how this could have happened. It looks like the portal has crashed. We are also trying to find out if there was any negligence on the part of the people serving the vaccination centers, ”says Shahi.

Health expert Chandrakant Lahariya said the "only reason" this could have happened is that vaccination data from websites were uploaded to the portal after a long delay.

“But I still can’t believe that so many injections went unnoticed for such a long time,” says Shahi.

Mandal himself claims to have received 11 doses of vaccines between February and December last year.

He kept detailed records of the dates, times, and vaccination centers he visited.

The pensioner said that he was vaccinated in different centers in his area and at least twice traveled to neighboring areas, one of which is located more than 100 km away. And for registration I used different identity cards.

Before taking a job as a postman, he said, he was a "practicing medicine man" in his village and "understands disease."

“After the vaccination, my body pain disappeared. My knees used to bother me and I walked with a stick. Now there is no. I feel good,” says the man.

The most common side effects of COVID-19 vaccines are fever, headaches, fatigue, and pain at the injection site. Less commonly, severe allergic reactions occur.

“Usually these reactions appear after the first and second dose. Multiple vaccinations will not harm since the antibodies have already been formed and vaccines consist of harmless components,” explained Dr. Lakharia.

In India, about 65% of adults are fully vaccinated, 91% have received at least one dose.
