IPhone 8 charging may have a new connector

Apple will abandon the Lightning connector in the new iPhone models, as well as introduce a flexible screen. This was reported by the newspaper. The Wall Street Journal with reference to sources in the company. Because of this, an American company may be forced to buy displays from Samsung.

The publication notes that the new Apple smartphones will receive a “USB-C cable for the charger and other peripherals instead of the original Lightning connector,” which doesn’t give 100% clarity.

USB-C is known for supporting accelerated charging and the ability to use a gadget to charge the batteries of other devices. USB-C also supports 3.1 USB, Thunderbolt 3, DisplayPort, MHL and superMHL, HDMI, DVI-D, VGA. It is also used to connect flash drives, monitors, external hard drives and other devices, for charging, as well as for transferring video, and not only.

In addition, the company plans to release three smartphones in 2017 year: two with the traditional for iPhone displays on liquid crystals and one smartphone with a display based on organic light-emitting diodes (OLED), the feature of which is small thickness and flexibility. This will allow Apple to produce an iPhone with a curved case.

The Wall Street Journal believes that the desire to produce a smartphone with an OLED-screen will force Apple to buy such displays from Samsung, as this is still the only company that can produce a large number of OLED-screens in a short time. Previously, Apple did not cooperate with Samsung, preferring to buy screens from LG Display Co., Japan Display Inc. and Sharp.

Meanwhile, Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst who is famous for his accurate predictions about Apple's KGI Securities devices, said that all 3 versions of the new iPhone that the company plans to launch in the second half of the year will have a standard Lightning connector, as well as a fast USB Type recharge -C Power Delivery, writes MacRumors

“We believe that all 3 new iPhone models will support Type-C Power Delivery fast charging, but will retain Lightning. The main technical challenge is to ensure product safety and stable data transfer during fast charging. To achieve this goal, Apple will be adopting TI's power management and Power Delivery technology. Developments in this area are already underway,” an excerpt from Ming Chi Kuo’s note.

Recall that Apple announced the date of the annual world conference for developers on the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) platforms. It will take place from 5 to 9 on June 2017 of the year at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California.
