Immigrants spend on medical insurance more than receive medical services

Immigrants using private health insurance, and their employers in 2014, paid billions in health insurance premiums by 25 billions of dollars than they received medical services. At the same time, illegal immigrants reassigned billion more insurance to 8 than received medical services.

This is evidenced by data from a study conducted by the journal Health Affairs, writes LA Times.

In turn, Americans born in the United States received medical services for 25 billion dollars more than they paid as insurance premiums.

In California, where about a quarter of residents are immigrants, they themselves and their employers contributed from 2008 to 2014 a year to 28 billion dollars more than they received from insurers during this period. During the same period, state-born residents of the state received 28 billions more from insurers than paid insurance premiums.

According to researchers, this is due to the fact that immigrants are relatively young and healthy, in addition, representatives of this group are extremely reluctant to seek medical help.

Earlier studies also showed that immigrants contribute more to Medicare to spend on caring for them. In particular, from 2000 to 2011 a year, they paid Medicare $ 35,1 billion more than the value of the services they received for this program.

Researchers calculated the financial contributions of immigrant employers and their own private insurance plans, conducting two surveys. Anyone who was born outside the United States was classified as an immigrant. However, there was no question about the legal status of respondents in the polls. The researchers used national data on illegal immigrants to estimate how many people in the study group were illegally residing in the country.

According to a study in 2014, immigrants and their employers contributed 88,7 billion dollars in health insurance premiums to the 64, but insurers spent 17 billion dollars on medical services rendered to them. Including illegal immigrants paid more than 9,4 billions of dollars to insurers, receiving services worth about XNUMX billion dollars.

Born in the US, residents of the country paid 616 billion dollars in contributions and received almost 641 billion dollars in services paid by insurers.

On average, every immigrant in 2014 overpaid the dollar for 1 123 insurers more than he received insurance services. At the same time, people born in the USA additionally cost insurers 163 dollars a year each.

In California, every immigrant overpayed $ 795 to insurers for this year, and people born in the United States received insurance services for 245 dollars more than they paid.

The study also found that immigrants' annual medical insurance costs increase with increasing duration of their stay in the United States.
