Immigration has changed the naturalization exam procedure
From October 1, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) began using digital tablets to administer reading and writing tests in English during the naturalization exams.
This innovation has been introduced as part of the measures taken by the department to modernize the work, the press service of USCIS said.
Previously, applicants could use tablets to verify their applications, but now this gadget can be used for most of the naturalization process. In doing so, USCIS will continue to use the paper-based exam process in individual cases; this will be decided on an individual basis.
The requirements and materials for the naturalization test have not changed, but applicants will now use a special program on the tablet instead of filling out a paper form. Immigration officers will instruct applicants in detail on how to use the plates before testing:
- For the reading test on the tablet, a suggestion will appear, and the immigration officer will ask the applicant to read it aloud.
- To test for a letter on the tablet will appear a few lines, resembling a lined sheet of paper. The immigration officer will read the sentence out loud and ask the applicant to write it on the tablet.
A test of knowledge of civil rights and obligations will be given orally, without using a tablet.
