Illinois intends to leave thousands of people without health insurance 49

Illinois authorities intend to begin the procedure for closing the Land of Lincoln insurance company operating under the state Obamacare program, which is why 49 thousands of people are at risk of being left without health insurance.

State officials say that the insured will have time to change the insurer before Land of Lincoln stops working, but no one names the specific deadlines, writes Chicago Tribune.

The insurance department explained its decision to the deterioration of the company's financial condition. Land of Lincoln must pay 31,8 millions of dollars to its customers through other programs.

This payment was a big burden for the company after it lost 90 million dollars in 2015 year.

Acting director Anne Melissa Dowling tried to find a way out of the situation by suspending payments until Land of Lincoln received financial support from the state relying on her under the Obamacare state program, but the Federal Medical Center did not accept this idea.

Land of Lincoln was one of 23 unprofitable insurance companies in the United States, which began its work in 2014, thanks to 2,4 billions of dollars in credit provided by the health care law.

The purpose of creating such unprofitable insurers was to give Americans an alternative to large insurance companies.

But the number of their clients grew too fast, and at some point such companies became unable to cover the medical expenses of their clients. The situation was aggravated by the fact that the promised compensation from the state in 2015 did not come fully. Among such companies was Land of Lincoln.

The search for solutions to financial problems was not crowned with success, so 49 to thousands of the company's customers needs to find a new insurer before the end of 2016.
