IKEA withdraws 80 of thousands of children's safety gates due to marriage

The Swedish furniture retailer IKEA recalls the Patrull series of children's safety gates all over the world, since a marriage was discovered in them.

The manufacturer recently became aware of several cases where children were injured as a result of the sudden opening of the gate, writes CNN.

Patrull, Patrull Klamma and Patrull Fast gates are subject to recall. In IKEA explained that the reason for the recall were the messages of buyers about the unexpected opening of the gate, which led to the injury of children. In total, 18 of such cases was recorded, in three of which the children required medical assistance.

In total, 3 million gates were sold in different countries, and 80 thousands in the USA.

“An investigation by an independent organization found the locking device to be unreliable, posing a safety hazard to small children, despite testing to ensure the gate complies with all applicable standards,” the company said in a statement on its website.

IKEA said that compromises on child safety are unacceptable. In the case of information about the marriage, the company immediately recalls unsafe goods.

These gates were sold online at the store's website, as well as in US stores from August 1995 to June 2016, at prices ranging from 10 to 60 dollars.

IKEA considers the use of the gate unsafe and recommends returning the goods to any company store. The paid money will be fully refunded to buyers.
